gasket matching
Any input on this would be helpfull, what you see is the bottom of port-o-sonic,this is how much the ports and gaskets are off,It's about 3/16. Grind them to match are not worry to much.Going on street 545 can not beleive that the casting is this far off https://s1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh581/daverd64/

Re: gasket matching
How well do the gaskets match your heads? The intake should match the heads, gasket is secondary.

Re: gasket matching
gaskets match the heads a hell of a lot better then the intake bolted them up and looked inside they are off this much.Thinking there was a shift in the casting of the intake, never seen one that has been of this much before

re.
I had a Weiand stealth intake that was almost that bad, takes a bit more grinding ,cause you have to work back into the port, carefull though, its best to keep every thing the same,,,,

Re: gasket matching
its ok to have the intake port a bit smaller than the cyl head port. honestly i wouldn't fool with it.

Re: gasket matching
with this being 3/16 off you wouldn't blend it at all the rest of the inside of the intake is pretty rough flashing inside on corners, etc.Almost looks like someone didn't give a shit about the way this was cast or it got thru without anybody checking it outrichter69 wrote:its ok to have the intake port a bit smaller than the cyl head port. honestly i wouldn't fool with it.

Re: gasket matching
It wouldn't hurt, but don't get the intake bigger than the head for sure.

Re: gasket matching
Heres a shot looking down the carb pad on a victor intake bolted to 68 heads. and as richter said as long as the intake is smaller than the head ur ok but not the other way around which was my case.

Dave, those guy's are steering you in the right direction imo. Don't be too hard on the intake builder though. Lots of times they make it this way so the builder can match to his preference. For a street driven car,you probably won't see a difference anyway.jmo

Dave ,I opened my offy up to match the heads. It never ran a bit better after doing it. It ain't worth the time in my opinion. It'll be bad just like it is

Re: gasket matching
Waiting on other parts of the puzzle and was looking at this intake last night, when I saw all the flashing inside and checked the fitment thats when I found the mismatch. I've got all kinds of time to play with this intake.Hell I've got a torker 2 or a victor 460 but I'm afaird the victor is to tall to fit under the hood, any thoughts about either one off these other intakes .Thanks

Re: gasket matching
If the Victor is too tall, the Torquer 2 is a good intake also.

Re: gasket matching
Are both sides the same way ? I had an older ( early 90s version) port-o-sonic that was cast wrong, it was way worse than that on the drivers side . ended up scrapping that manifold.

Re: gasket matching
yea, both sides have a good 3/16 off set, with the way the casting is on the inside and outside it looks like the core halves didn't fit together properly. To much time on my hands intake ports are down to about 1/16 now and the inside flashing has been cleaned up.Bagged up and put away waiting on 4bolt mains to get drilled and line bored on new motor by the way casting date 1992
