Q16 ifyou want gas, M5 if its alky, both should get it there if the rest is up to the task

Q16 in my book ... getting enough alcohol through ONE carb will eventually become a problem at that level. Use two carbs with alcohol or some type of F.I. and another point of compression would be prefered with alcohol.

q16 it is then, got a good friend that is a dealer about 10 miles from me. perfect

there ya go..........it will work in a carb but like said at that power level it will be tough to feed with just a pair of needle and seats........my old 529 with a single adp 1050 ran low 5.70's with M5 though........ and low 5.60's w M5 and injection.

It's gonna take a set of SCJ's flowing around 400 cfm too. And the right cam.

Do you really think the needle and seat would be a limitation Fabio? I can agree with that when I see #8 or #10 line attached to the carb bowl

what I been told, never done it, went injection and never looked back
John Kyle at APD is who told me to run a -8.............so I rekon its his dumbass thats incorrect on what line size to use on an alky n/s.......I run a single -6 to feed mine............

When our season starts I'm gonna run my new bullet on c14 for two weeks, then make the switch to alky. Should be interesting to see if there's a difference. A real world back to back test......we shall see!!!

I just don't understand the thinking that a needle and seat will out flow a #6 line . A big cfm carb will not work well with methanol , m5 or , nitro because of the carbs physical limitations .

I doubt that the needle/seat is seeing the same p.s.i. that the injection noozles are.

If you use a carb on methanol you will only see the limitation of the carb not the fuels you use. The only way to do a 100% fair comparison is through the exact same induction system. I will even make this statement a cj headed engine will not run faster on gas if it does something else is the limiting factor.

Years ago, on a simple dyno test, we took an 1150 carb off a 482" engine and replaced it with an 850 and made about 4% more horsepower & 5% more torque. It was simply because we could now get enough alcohol through the carb to get a decent air fuel ratio for power.
Now, 4% doesn't sound like much but, starting with 800 horsepower; that is almost 35 horsepower.

So Q-16 over C-12 or C14? I checked the4 website. I always used C-12 with my DOVE headed 514. Now new combo
14-1 compression with 65cc heads maybe I need to try the Q16.

Just be sure you tune for Q16, it will want more fuel to compensate for the oxygen.Moodyblues wrote:So Q-16 over C-12 or C14? I checked the4 website. I always used C-12 with my DOVE headed 514. Now new combo

X2. There is a fairly steep learning curve. Ask me how I know...

113 VP is the bang for the buck....I've seen it run with 14/1 comp ratio very well. Having said that, it may or may not with iron heads...i have not been there. You will need to jet up with 113 but not as much with Q16.

Sorry forgot to say the new heads are TFS
