featherlite trailer question Empty featherlite trailer question

Post  cool40 February 16th 2012, 12:34 am

i bought this today and had a few questions.it dont have a step for the side door! it's never had one from what i can tell,no holes, welds, or anything.i'm too short and fat to jump that high many times so any ideas? any tips on aluminum trailers? i've found a crack on the door hinge about 1"long and another at the top rear corner and i think they coulda been caused from draging the ground.it's been in a barn for 3yrs so the batteries are dead and very dusty but it sure pulls good! Very Happy my 5.4 SD pulls it easy too! my pit crew ok'd it today after school Laughing featherlite trailer question New_tr10featherlite trailer question New_tr11

Are you talking about the manual fold out steps, or the 12 volt automatic steps that fold out when you open the door?

Nice trailer. I think 5.4s get a bad rap I have a 5.4 in my Excursion( I bought it for the soul purpose of doing a cummins swap on it) and it tow my enclosed fine fully loaded with the car tools and golf cart. It has 4.30 gears and will tow fine at 70-75 all day. Sucks the gas (9.4 mpg), but I don't pay for gas so it doesn't really matter to me. But as far as towing I've had zero issues. The only issue I've had is it spit a plug out so I put ti exerts I. All the cylinders and it's been good to go. All you spoiled ballers with diesels. I'll do the swap and I'm sure I will wonder why I didn't do it sooner, but for now I have no complaints.

Lee don't put a foldable step that recess back under the trailer it want last long.I have seen many steps bent all up and not usable any more from being damaged from where someone bottoming the trailer out.I would bolt one in the door so that it will foldup then close the door you can make one easy.I have built alot of aluminum folding steps with a pin you could pull and remove it if you want to over the years I worked for Pace American. If you need any info on them give me a call before 9pm after that I will be in the bed.

thanks Jim.i may just make one for it.i've looked at the rv steps and found a pic of a new trailer like this one with a nice flip step like i had in mind.it would'nt be so bad but this trailer dont have a step inside the door like most,it's all the way up at floor level.

Point well taken....I for got about Fabio's 5,500 lbs of brains that should be included in the total payload. 850-950 lbs. ft. for tq. at least Razz

thats why i dont have a smoker Fabio, the good 7.3 days are over and "if" you find one that aint used up they want a left nut for it.the 5.4 does a good job with the 3.73 gears.
