carb stud nitrous? Empty carb stud nitrous?

Post  meteor545 September 21st 2009, 3:28 pm

I am in the not enough cash stages of a buildup right now. my plan all along has been to follow the old ford racing philosophy of "lazy litres" (from the gt 40 days, they presumed corectly that thier "lazy" 7 litre(427) engines would be more durable than the max effort 3 litre engines of the competetion at the same power levels) to that end i have a mild (desktop dyno figures 550 hp 650 torque) 545 longblock. i had the machinist build it with nitrous in mind (just in case). i was wondering if the carb stud nitrous kits work well, or if they are dangerous?

link to nos' page on the kit
http://www.holley.com/05090NOS.asp

engine details (i'm sure someone will ask carb stud nitrous? Icon_biggrin ):
d9te block .30 over
scat 9000 crank 6.7 rods probe flat tops .005 in the hole
procrap heads (i didn't know untill it was too late) 95 cc chambers about 11:1
hyd flat tappet cam
stalth intake
4150 carb

Ilike the idea of this kit because it's hidden. i want to have a sleeper when i am done. and a big ol plate just aint sleeper!

There fine i've used the nos cheater plate system and then tried the zex perimeter plate with it and also tried the zex plate with a compucar system and all work fine you just have to have your tune good you can burn it up with a fogger too if its not right. As far as plate systems go i like the zex perimeter plate no spray bars in the middle the one plate i have and havent tried it yet is the compucar plate its a spray bar plate but it has 64 holes in it verses 32 like the cheater plate so it might work better than the nos plate but like i said i had good luck with the cheater plate too.

i was refering to the nos topshot. it's a kit that goes in the aircleaner and directs the nitrous and fuel down through the top of the carb.
for a hidden install

I have not personally tried that type of NOS setup. I can say that on my late model efi cars I used to swap on a 150hp NX wet shot kit that simply placed a single special fogger nozzel in the intake tract after the mass air sensor but BEFORE the throttle body by about 4". This kit worked extremely well regardless that nay sayers preached the EFI manifolds weren't meant to have fuel passing thru them. My '03 Mach 1 used to run mid 11's with gears, tires, suspension, computer tune, and this simple kit. I'd imagine the kit you are looking at will work just fine at that same power level as it is getting the NOS and extra fuel in there in the same manner.

thanks. i was concerned it might interfere with the proper operation of the carburator somehow.

Somebody had this set-up on an FE powered mustang so the shaker scoop would clear the hood. His name was Jay Brown I think. He ran it with 150 jets and it ran well . It was in Car Craft magazine and it went in the 11s. He ran it in Hot Rod Drag Week also but I think it was all motor then.
