No. The composite head gaskets were not up to the task. They seeped in the cylinders while it sat and the rings stuck in the pistons. Engine is torn apart now.
Are you going to cometic?

Re: 598 SCJ Build
Great numbers, but I didn't realize this at first... Why such a wide spread between peak torque and peak horse power?? The peak torque was around 4800 and the peak horse power was around 6900. Thats a 2100RPM spread. What part of the combo has the biggest part to play in this wide spread? Does it mean there is still more to be had out of the combo with some changes???

High airflow and a smallish cross section in the head for the cubic inch of the engine. It takes a good port to flow quality air and quantity.
It has the ability with the high air speed to fill the cylinders efficiently in the lower rpm range and also in the upper.
My tfs headed 557 did this too............. It had a 1700 rpm spread.

Nice work on Jon's manifold Blake. You showed me your Victor on the motor in Columbus awhile ago. Look's like Jon's might have a littel more plenum?

Has this been run in a car yet, if so what kind of times did you run?

The dyno headers were blocking around .125 around the whole top of the port, I would think that hurt some power but that is speculation only.

Re: 598 SCJ Build
What intake did you have on it? Your going to have to move that tq peak RPM on up higher to get to the EL GRANDO. By the looks of the dyno sheet, it probably possible with some header and intake work.

Good power. Did you knock the short turn down on the intake side? Did you ever get the head flowed?

Derek, What heads gaskets did you use?

This guy hasn't logged in since April of 2015. But I think this he is still on here but with a different username. Not 100% sure though.
I'm curious what ET the combo did in the Mustang...

I'm putting this up for sale. Dyno time only. I never took it to the track. I'm looking for 15,000 for it. Call or text 5134766905 if you're interested.

Carb to pan. It's a fox body pan. My brother built it he is an employee at bed. I'm in Hamilton Ohio. I would ship at buyers expense.

I wonder how much more power this engine would make with an A460 or C460 top end!!

derek528 wrote:There is so much experience in the shop that there really is no need to flow them. They know what makes power...and it's not flow numbers. For example, laying back the short turn really flat will sometimes kill flow numbers, but almost always picks up power. To me, a flow bench is a tool that has it's place, but the dyno tells the true story. I may be wrong and this thing might be a pig, but I doubt it. It will be dynoed, on a conservative dyno and I'll post the numbers. Bischoff does have a flow bench, which gets used from time to time, but bischoff does not build winning engines based on flow numbers. I have brought up flowing these heads and all the guys in the shop just laugh and say "You need to stop racing the flow bench"
Just for everyone reading ... Laying back the short side on the cylinder wall side is very testy with an SCJ head from FRPP; gets thin and very close to water and every port thickness is different. Bulging that side wall out behind the pushrod pinch though, helps everywhere.
Getting 2" of intake installed height normally requires changing the intake rocker stud angle or a Jesel.
