429 cam quest Empty 429 cam quest

Post  cturk1010 April 14th 2012, 4:28 pm

i have a d1ve block, dove heads, stealth intake, headers stock pistons and valve size trans is a c6 with 2200 stall and running 456 gears in a cj7 jeep
run on sand only with 20 wide paddle tires
so now the big question is i called comp cam and the cam that they recomended to me is 34-239-4 that has lobe lift of .3200/.3320 gross valve lift of .554/.574 this seems to be a big cam to me for what i am running i have the heads off now and want to put new springs and do a grind on valves while i have it apart trying to keep the cost down sum (have baby on the way) will this cam work for me or is comp spot on with the best cam for me?

I would recommend a CUSTOM camshaft grind; it is only about 20 bucks more and you'll get exactly what you need.
If for some reason you have to run a cam "off the shelf" and you use reconditioned stock type heads then use a THUMPER camshaft #34-600-5 which has appropriate less valve lift. That big amount of valve lift on that Comp 4x4 cam will not work without machining the heads for it.

i am sending the heads in to do the valves so i could have the work done at that time comp didnt say anything about the machine work that needs to be done for that lift is it worth doing the work or just go with a smaller lift that thumper cam has to high of a rpm range for me i am looking to keep my bottom end power and use my 2200 stall otherwise i dig holes when i take off

I'm sorry ... I must be totally confused about how your torque converter works. scratch

i dont want to have to put a bigger converter in i think the 2200 is good for what i do and the power curve on the thumper cam is at a higher rpm
