Congrats to local Ford racer Bobby Small

for a runner-up finish in the Jegs SuperQuick 32 Series race held at Beech Bend Raceway this weekend. It was the 26th Annual NHRA SportsNationals Open http://www.beechbend.com/Initial%20Images/Dragstrip/BBNHRASportsNationals1000.jpg

Of the 50 some-odd cars trying to qualify for the show, we had four of our local BB Ford powered dragsters there. We had Bobby Small, Kristina Lawyer, Scott Carman and Dillion Winters. As usual we were outnumbered by the brand X guys and we only had those four Fords entrants in the Jegs Quick 32 program. The field was tough as the bump spot was a 4.631 e.t., however all four got in the program. After the first round of eliminations we still had Scott, Kristina and Bobby in. In the second round Kristina lost a close one to Robbie Freels blown Chevy powered dragster. She had a .006 light and Robbie had a .002 light. Likewise Scott lost another close one. The finals boiled down to battle between Bobby Small and Edmond Richardson with Edmond talking a close win. To put it in perspective, Edmond did not even qualify for this race last year as he ran a 4.655 @ 149.03 mph and was # 46 (14th alternate) in the qualifying. The good news is, I believe Bobby moves into the points lead of this season long NHRA Div 3 series. For those of you who may be unaware, Bobby was the 2011 Series Champion, Kristina was the 2010 Series Champion and Phillip Oakley who is now racing in Top Dragtser, was the 2003 Series Champion.

Phillip don't run the Jegs race anymore, he runs top dragster.

It was Bobby Small with the black dragster,,,,not Bobby Shrewsberry with the green dragster. Shrewsberry was down there with me, but not racing. He is working hard to get his new engine built and be ready for the Ford race at U.S. 43 in June.
