Header fab for boss vs wedge
I know boss heads are physically bigger but wondering about header fab. Have an early falcon with a mii front end on stock frame rails. I've heard headers can be ok with boss heads because they point more downward or would it be easier with standard wedge?
Using motor mounts.
Thanks for input.

Re: Header fab for boss vs wedge
As to what would be easier,,,,I don't understand the question. If you are building custom headers, then you're doing just that, and IMO it's six of one and have a dozen of the other. I wouldn't let the issue of header construction determine what heads I was going to use.
Generally speaking, the exhaust flange of the wedge heads is perpendicular to the deck surface, so the exhaust flange just more or less continues on upward at a 45* angle. The hemi heads do have more of a bend in the exhaust, and the flanges are not perpendicular to the deck surface, but are turned over more to about a 30* angle. Therefore you will have less of a turn in the primary pipes for downswept headers.
Hope this helps,
Charlie

That does indeed help Charlie. I understand you're confusion on the question. I'm on a phone and couldn't type out in detail what I was asking.
Thank you for the specifics on exhaust ports.

I'd consider it but its more of a street car and I really don't care for the way motor plates look. Yes, I care about the way it looks too.

i hear you,the motor plate is a PIA if you need to mount stuff on the front anywhere.windsor wrote:I'd consider it but its more of a street car and I really don't care for the way motor plates look. Yes, I care about the way it looks too.

Re: Header fab for boss vs wedge
If you are building your own headers I have laser cut individual 3/8" flanges
available for the Boss 9 heads. Or I can build you the complete set of
headers if you want to bring me the car?

Thanks Rich. First time I've been on your site. Nice stuff.
I'm thinkin boss header fab is easier as well because spark plugs aren't in the way, which helps. I'm trying to talk myself out of the extra expense but it isn't working. They can work with hyd rollers, which is what I want as well.

Re: Header fab for boss vs wedge
IMO you are correct. Fabricating the Boss 9 headers in the Pinto
was easier then for my wedge motor. Plenty of room around the
ports for the bolt holes and no spark plug to deal with.
