Trying to do 460 into thunderbird sc
Hey guys newb here. I'm so happy this forum didn't make me wait 2 weeks to be able to post like another one I just tried. Anyways, I don't really know much about carb engines but I've been reading a lot lately.
I have a 1990 Ford Thunderbird supercoupe that originally came with a 3.8 supercharged v6, the car has been sitting for a few months and rather than scrap it I thought about giving it a new life. I bought a 460 ford engine with 10.5 to 1 compression 30 over with scj heads and c6 transmission. Also two holley 700 carbs and offenhausser turbo 360 manifold. I just picked up the tranny got it rebuilt with trans-go shift kit, the carbs were also rebuilt and the heads got shaved, cleaned and valve job. I hope to start the project before the end of the month.
Glad to be here.

You will probably need a giant hood scoop to fit those holleys under there!

Looks like this now. Went with a 1050 dominator instead of the two carbs

Mopar six pack scoop 4.5" tall. Pic was taken before the scoop was bolted down.

Swap
That's cool you were able to swap that engine in there. I own a 90 cougar xr7 (same engine as the t-bird supercoupe) and was wondering if you could give me a quick run down of what you had to do to fit that big engine in that small engine bay? Also did you swap in a nine inch rear in place of the irs? Thanks.

Sure, custom motor mounts, fox swap oil pan, fox swap headers. No other modifications needed, other than wiring, fuel etc. This engine weighs about the same as the sc engine with supercharger, ic tubes brackets etc. The fit is tight but not too bad. I still have the IRS, there's a guy running a 521 with the stock IRS, seems to be holding fine.

If you get a chance, post an engine compartment shot to show how the shock towers clear.
I traded in my 1987 T-bird Turbo Coupe in 1989 to buy the "new" 1989 Super Coupe and regretted it every day until I traded it in on a Mustang. It is a very aero body, but heavy as hell and it needed much more horsepower, so you did the right thing!

Here you go. The engine itself fits like a glove, expect the driver side header if you run headers. The c6 transmission is another story though, that thing rubs everywhere, if I had to do it all over again I would go with a smaller/lighter c4.
This is my 3rd supercouple, they could be made fast but will never be as reliable or sound as good as a big block. They have 100 sensors that could go bad at anytime, a lot of obsolete parts and headgasket, motor mount issues etc.
