Project Boss 302 Empty Project Boss 302

Post  dfree383 November 17th 2013, 4:01 am

Putting together a Boss 302 engine for the 1970 Mustang I picked up a few months back off Mikey.

Here's what it is.......

Standard Bore Ford A4 Block.
Old Velasco 3.100 Stroke Forged Crank
5.400 Carrillo Rods
JE Domed Pistons (Works out to about 10.5:1 after cutting the domes a little)

Comp Cam Mechanical 242 246 @ .050 .586 .564 lift on a 106
Set of EDM Lifters
Set of pocket Ported Oz 2V CC heads with 2.10 1.71 SS Milodon Valves (Haven't flowed them but some one did a nice job on them)
3/8 .080 pushrods
1.73 Comp Steel Rockers

Trans Am Style Aviaid Road Race Pan and Pick-up
Track Boss Single Plane Intake
650 Double pumper for now (going to put one of those self contained EFI units on it later)
Hooker 1 7/8 Headers

Looking for about 425-450hp out of it.

Balance if the driveline is a TKO600 5 speed and a 9" with some 3.89 Gears.

Cool deal Very Happy  , one day I'll do a similar combo , I still have a B&A Track Boss 351 intake, stage 2 rods from PAW and .040 Sterling dome pistons and rings still new in the boxes from 17 years ago Shocked I was planning on doing a Clever 351 for the 76 cobra 2

Looks like it is going to be a sweet setup. When I picked up my engine good ol Jet boat gave me a tour and I got to see this firsthand. Should be a nice setup. Very Happy

Dave you have the coolest stuff, would you consider adopting a 58 year old to take care of your stuff while you're away???? Years ago (70's) My at the time engine builder had a Boss 302 Mustang with Hilborn stack injection on it that he ran on the street. Used Holly fuel bowl to regulate the fuel somehow, at 9 grand it was screaming and going fast. He had a bunch of different intakes for Boss 302's but that one was the coolest.

Thanks Jeff, I have a real soft spot for 351c's and Boss 302's, first engine I ever built was a 351c.

This one is no 10,000 rpm screamer, occasional 7,000, when I feel the need, cruiser.

Got the cam broke in and swapped springs today, couple of short pulls got 380 hp at 6000 and still heading north. Back on it in the morning.

Might need to put a little smaller cam in it, but need to do some tuning first.
