uneven trailer tire wear Empty uneven trailer tire wear

Post  Tore March 15th 2014, 8:53 pm

I just drove 650 miles and got down to Charlotte NC . I have a 26 foot Dominator trl. dual axle. The right rear tire is wearing uneven. The outside edge is wearing uneven. What can be the cause and what can I do to remedy this??? Trl was empty coming down.

Sounds like its not following the other tire. Bent axle maybe? Loaded crazy?

Tore, i worked on semi trucks and trailers several years ago. We aligned the trailer axles by measuring from king pin/ hitch to the center of the front left hub. Measure from pin to center of right front hub. After making both measurements equal , measure from the center of the LF hub to the left rear hub. Go the other side and measure from the RF hub to the RR hub . Move the axle around until the measurements  are the same . It should track straight  and not wear the tires unevenly unless something is bent.

Thanks guys I kind of maybe thought it was an alignment issue. I never looked under the trailer to see if there is some type of adjustment .

Thanks Tore

If it was an axle alignment issue... Wouldn't the left rear tire wear uneven too ???

I had an issue like this on one of my trailers.. turned out to be bent axle from hitting a curb or 2..

I had an issue with my old trailer wearing tires. It would wear one side all wierd and I would replace them..... Then the other side would do the same thing. I couldn't find any issue. Replaced all 4 and the problem appears to have gone away.

Worn out spring and shackle bushings will do the same uneven wear. If you have this replace them with the bronze greasable bushings and you wont need to do it again.

When I bought my trailer the tire wear was bad and the rubber bushings were gone.

I was looking today and I only have 1 tire wearing uneven. I was wondering if it was a wheel bearing.

Thanks for the suggestions to look for.

Nothing as of yet as I haven't had a chance to take it apart. When I get time to pull it apart I will post what I find.
