Phillip ... I don't personally have any interest as to where this takes place, as long as attendance, by non drag racers as well as those with drag race vehicle, can be included and it can grow.

No hotels needed....we're all staying on JY's farm!
Re: Ford Thunder thoughts and ideas.....
I like the smaller event idea personally. The us43 race was in my sandbox so you know I'm all for it. I know some folks didn't care for how the track worked but 155*track temp is hard to deal with. I'll try to make the next one if I'm able but dont plan on making a long haul because it costs too much.iI've been down some shit tracks running around a second slower and dont care for that either but with that said i dont need nhra sanctioned track to run on.

Something else to consider when throwing all these "ideas" out is you can only get so much shit in a 2-3 day deal. I had very little to do with the us43 race but learned a lot.lol.....

Re: Ford Thunder thoughts and ideas.....
Another small track around the Ford swap meet area of Columbus, Ohio is Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia, Ohio where there definately IS a Jeg's "Super Quick Series" race yet this year, on August 2nd.
It is both an 1/8 mile & 1/4 mile track used for slower vehicles of 12:00 and slower..
It is just southwest of Columbus as a suburb of Dayton, Ohio and amenities are even closer than at "Pacemakers" as it is a highly populated area.
Again, I just want to see this succeed as an event as more than just another drag race and get the PEOPLE count up.

Re: Ford Thunder thoughts and ideas.....
Personally I had a good time at US43. Blake done a fine job and I think it was a nice facility. I think the only problem was it was so hot and not a tree in sight. But no one can control the weather. You always take that chance. Spring and fall are typically nicer for the temps but you have to deal with rain. Have it in july and it will probably be hot. Also, all ford powered vehicles have been allowed since about the second year of the bash. Maybe some people didn't realize that. I do think that settling on a date pretty quick is a good idea. I think it ought to be the same weekend every year. It's kinda like the bracket nationals at US60 are the second week in oct, and the last two years I've been there have been packed. I believe that it would be best to put it out there and find out some of the major events and not try to conflict with them. I know that some times it may fall on some of them and you would lose a few racers, but I think you would gain more than you lose by it always being the same. that way people can always plan ahead. I also remember two years ago at the bracket nats there was people that came to the track and took pics, and could make t-shirts, pictures, posters and tin type pics with your car. They did it on their own and weren't affiliated with the track. Nice for the memories. I do think the more things that you can add to the event the better off you are. Like the picture/t-shirt maker, find someone that is willing to come just for the profits they make. That way it doesn't cost you the money or time with the pre order stuff. I also think the prepay is a good idea for a few reasons, you get a good idea on how many are coming, you can pay when you get it, not have to come up with it at the last minute and people are less likely to back out if they have already paid.

I would love to do that if I had the money. There was a track that was for sale near the Wyoming/Montana boarder a couple years ago also.
Re: Ford Thunder thoughts and ideas.....
Me too, I had a chance to buy one here in Phoenix around 1981, and I let $20,000 kill the deal. Sure wish I hadn't done that.

Re: Ford Thunder thoughts and ideas.....
I've enjoyed these events every time I've been able to go.
Lots of good ideas in here guys. Getting a date for next year and promote the crap out of it will get the turn out everyone is hoping for. Lets face it we all pretty much want/need the same thing. A place to get together and tell lies and maybe a drag race will break out. Never in a million years will whoever chooses to put on one of these races be able to appease everyone. Drag racers, mudders, pullers, bench racers etc.....
Pick a venue and promote. IMO a drag race, swap meet and tech seminar rolled into one would be cool.
Beacon would be a great place. It's a super nice place with lots of room and could accommodate anything we wanted. It's got the looks of a 'big' track and the feel of a place like US60. Oh and there's quite a few amenities in the area as well.

There are plenty of hotels within 10-15 miles . Camp ground right across from track also . Lots of resturants, etc in the area.
I will help all i can if you guys want to try something there. They do have the ratober fest planned in the fall .
I was planning on coming to us 60 but was waiting on new torque converter to get here.

Re: Ford Thunder thoughts and ideas.....
hey guys unless u have ever done this u have no idea wut it takes to put this on. yes Philip said it right US60 don't have all the safty stuff like an NHRA track has but for wut we rent it for u cant beat the price. as far as guard rails instead of concrete walls yes they are better but if ur worried about that then u don't need to be racing. there guard rails are in line with trackso they wont open up. im not for sure but I have seen in past that u cant schedual this event till next year cause of conflict with other races. most of the people on here that are bitching about the stuff wouldn't come even if in there home town or don't even race. this has been out of KY but if it was for Philip and a few others starting this from Ky then the ford race would of never started. I didn't do as much this year as I did the year before but the year before me and my wife worked our asses off on it for wut a hand few of cars, only a couple more than this year. in life ur never gonna make everyone happy, there is always gonna be them people who will always bitch about something.

I corrected info on my last post I was incorrect Ohio Valley is 1/8 mile only. Also I apologize I forgot about Beacon Raceway but from what it sounds like this sound like a very good option.

That is the major problem George.
So what, about conflicts with other tracks and races ... this shouldn't be strictly about the drag race. If you want to go somewhere else then GO; there are a whole lot more people on here doing other stuff than drag racing who might/would attend if they could plan ahead for it so, this should not STRICTLY be about the racing. The drag racing should merely be the mode of entertainment for this event of people who are Ford proponents, (especially the Big Block Ford), at any level.
It NEEDS to be scheduled now or soon ... if there is any intention at all about it growing as an EVENT.
I didn't bring any car this year but, I did pay my 20 bucks to get in the gate ... I have been to every one of these with no vehicle to race.
Re: Ford Thunder thoughts and ideas.....
Fot the ones from the North that would like too meet up and have some fun this Fall. The All Ford Expo on labor day weekend at national Trail Raceway in Columbus ,Ohio will be a good one to attend. The NMRA has NOTHING to do w/it this year (For goodness sake ). Should be back like it used to be when the PFCA put this deal on. Will be a 3 day deal starting on Friday-Sunday. If we could get something lined up for next year before this race,it would be a great place to hand out fliers and promote our race .
I think Randy Malik is on the right track w/his ideas. jmo

I gave up lease on track and track closed down. The original Big Block Ford Bash may be returning for 2015. If it does HOLD on cause it will be A GOOD RIDE!
