If'n you was going build a Stock Eliminator 5.0......
Who would you use for Cams, cam lobes and valve train parts?
What about heads?

Rory Macneil ran one in Div 6 for a few years. Did pretty good with it. He is on here sometimes.

Re: If'n you was going build a Stock Eliminator 5.0......
Dave Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords had a complete series about the now editor Evan Smith building and running a stock Mustang. Then he upped it to Cobra spec's to run even faster. I would check online to see if you can read the entire series of articles. I can't remember what heads they used etc. but I'm pretty sure that it was all covered, as well as what they did to upgrade it to cobra spec's. I believe that at one time he held the national record in his class. Uh one other thing Dave.....don't you have enough projects????

With running a competitive "NHRA STOCK ELIMINATOR" the engine is important however, the VEHICLE preparation is absolutely the most important factor in running that eliminator. Even different components for each different track.
Of course, if you have no intentions of being competitive and want to be one of "those stocker guys" then it takes a lot less.

Well the intention is to get my feet wet and check it out first with some junk I have laying around. I already have a half ass engine together but it won't pass tech and definitely won't run the numbers. I'm guessing I'll be
About 50 hp off competitive, and that's a mile!
I've just started on the chassis, it's in the garage on jack stands as we speak. Going to hit the high payback stuff relatively simple stuff first.
Upper and lower bars and bushings.
Reinforce the boxes.
Connectors
Rear shocks
I already have a 8.8 housing straitened and welded with 9" ends on it and some decent 31 spline axels. I have 3.73 in it but already know they won't be enough, but in going to run them until I figure out what optimum.
Front suspension will be second place to hit, I'm just going to remove the sway bar for now and work on the alignment when I get it running to do some testing.
It also going to be a stick car too.... So I have some big decisions to make to start off. Probably going to just freshen the t5 with some mods. And run a regular clutch I have here until it fails, then upgrade to a soft slipper.

If you can be competitive in that class you're the man. I have a couple buddys that run stockers. Seems like they spend most of their time trying not to get caught cheating!

Most racers on www.classracer.com prefer comp cams or these guys: http://bulletcams.com/
Both have very knowledgable techs on staff that are very familiar with the Stock racer's needs.
I am slowly working on a '94 GT 5.0 Stocker to run P/SA and when it comes time for the cam and springs I will contact bullet.
The ONLY thing that is allowed on Stocker heads is the valve angle job.
A grinder cannot touch the combustion chamber or the int, or ex. runners. Must be "as cast"

I think you should spend some time reading and absorbing the rule book.
There should be only decisions about the trans internals as you are REQUIRED to run whatever came originally in the car.

Re: If'n you was going build a Stock Eliminator 5.0......
The rules are pretty liberal and allow a lot of substitutions. I've been talking with a couple of local racers that run stock eliminator along with reading the rules.

The 5.0 is a great foundation to build a competitive Stocker.
A EFI 5.0 Mustang usually runs K/S thru N/S.
Here are the current manual trans record holders as of July 1st: ( note that the current record 5.0 Mustangs are all carbed '85 models)
As a reference, I've included the automatic current records in Stock and also the NHRA 1/8th mile records as of today.

I applaud anyone who wants to build one of these cars, but with all the time and money that needs to go into one of these projects I would rather have a faster style car....I have a friend here that had a super stock car and all the time and money in that thing he could have a front running T/S car or similar ....plus if not on the circuit week in and out...its tuff to win....that is all, rant over, good luck
