460 Single Turbo In 1973 Torino with A460 Heads
Putting this out there to get some feedback and to see if anyone, maybe has used these heads in similar engine bay. I know the heads will physically go on the block and sit in the car however, my concern is clearance with A460 heads. The exhaust ports are raised, which may or may not be a problem ( I will be fabbing turbo exhaust system). The valve cover rail on the A460's is also physically taller than say OEM Dove head, so not sure if there will be clearance issues with brake booster and A/C plenum box. This car is an unrestored fastback GTS and I don't want to butcher anything on it. Reason for the A460 heads is beacuse I have them available to use. I do realize this would be a no brainer with OEM style heads (since 73's came with 429's from factory) but only OEM heads I have to use would be a set of C8VE's, which would probably work fine, when setup and prepped however, they are 47 yrs old and cast iron. This is just a plan on paper currently; not a concrete project, so any advice/experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!

The "don't want to butcher" comment is quite funny considering your wanting to put a giant HP engine in it.
IMO it shout fit fine with some tweaking.
If your looking for a minimal tweaking scenario, maybe use a set of p51 or other similar stock style heads.
They will still support insane hp numbers in a turbo application.

Re: 460 Single Turbo In 1973 Torino with A460 Heads
Thanks for the reply. Not really putting a giant HP engine in this car. Currently car has 2bbl 400, so swapping to BBF is relatively easy, since I have mounts and correct C6 is already there. My combination is somewhat simple at 472 cid. Car has 9" with 2.75:1 gear and I don't intend to change them nor do I intend to change hood on car. I thought about just doing a large stroker engine but I feel a EFI single turbo, on a simple but stout short block, will make a better driver with numerically high gears. This car will still maintain A/C and whatever other comforts existed in a 73' Torino. I wish I had a set of A429's, SCJ's or P51's laying around but I don't; I got a set of Motorsport A460's laying around. Worse case scenario, I'll pull 400 and do a mock up with A460 and see what I have to work with. I knew this was an odd situation but was hoping maybe someone had tried something similar with A460's and full framed Ford body.

Re: 460 Single Turbo In 1973 Torino with A460 Heads
Swap the a460s for a decent set of CJ style heads?
Any a460 based engine with a little boost is going to make some crazy numbers.
IMO if you not looking to make big hp and want a turbo, just get some D3 heads and a fresh 460 short block, I can't imaging it not popping 600+ hp and being a pussy cat to drive.
Another scenario that would be a lot simpler would be to just do a 545 stroker and CJ style heads..... Again 600+ won't be real hard and it will package nicer in the bay with the AC and accessories.
