Camshaft Question Empty Camshaft Question

Post  1EFF100 March 23rd 2016, 1:20 pm

Hey guys. 5pointslow has this cam for sale http://compcams.carshopinc.com/product_info.php/products_id/14417/34-652-5 and I was curious if it would be a good selection for a 545 street engine in a heavy car (about 4500 lbs.), roughly 10.5-11-1 compression on pump gas with TFS 290 streets. Not looking to spin this engine up, just want lots of torque.

Thanks.

I think it would be if you want a mechanical cam and a lot of midrange power.

You can run your dynamic compression here. I come up with 8.09/1 with 160 cranking compression going by the ABDC in the cam link with 11/1 static and a 4.5" stroke.

Thanks supervel, I appreciate the response. Hoping to hear from the cam guys too.

I may end up running a set of The Mad Porters full tilt iron big valve heads--haven't made up my mind yet.
I always like the idea of making big power with the factory parts. Smile

It does not really matter I am getting that cam anyway for my upcoming 466/472. Blake also reomended it for the smaller engines and has run it before.

If you get Scottys heads you may as well go all out and get him to cut a matching cam. This one is just a proven performer in a 466/472 is why I want it. Besides it's a good deal.

If you are going to spend the money on cast iron splurge and get a set of CJ's or Police interceptor D20E's heads and spend the money on them, you can get it back easier down the road if you ever go aluminum and they flow better. GT Mustangs friend has a set on here get with him.

I have a set of Scotts big valve D0VEs, custom cam and recurved distributor on a 466 in my '87 F-250 4X4 and that thing hauls a$$. I'm very pleased with Scotts work. He's suggesting I go with a set of his SCJs but I don't want to change the pistons so I'm leaning towards staying with conventional valve layout.
I realize I can cut valve reliefs but the TFS streets are very close in price to the SCJs and have worked just fine out of the box for big inch engines--or so I've read on the internet. Smile

This build is all about looooooow budget. Smile
