I am trying to make an oil pump primer out of an old duraspark distributor. Is there a small bolt that holds the cogs on the upper shaft that has to be removed to get the cogs off?

Roll key holds the star on but a funky snap ring down in the top of that shaft holds it on.

I just use a thinwall socket on a long 1/4" drive socket extension. I tack weld the socket on the extension so that I don't hyperextend my vocabulary (cuss because the socket went somewhere it shouldn't). The end of a 1/4" extension fits nicely in a 1/2" drill chuck.

Just a plain old distributor SHAFT works for me.

Pry that "star" wheel up with a pair of flat blade screwdrivers. Then the snap ring underneath can be removed and the whole plate,, pickup, etc... can then be removed.

I usually just use a deep 5/16", 1/4" drive 6pt socket and duct tape it to my long extension then attach the cordless drill and let it rip...
