Finally got the new motor running!
Last year made one pass and had an oiling problem, took out the front 3 rod bearings. We ran last Friday at Rocky Mountain Raceway in SLC Utah, 4400 ft. elevation and around 94*. The car is a 1969 Mach 1, around 3500 lbs. Motor is a 545, P51 heads, 14.2 compression, roller cam, 28x10 radial slicks with new cal tracs. Ran 10.20 at 132 mph first run and spun on second run at 10.45 at 132.8 mph. Was pretty happy with how it ran first time off trailer. Going back down there this coming Friday for more fun ha ha.

This weekend supposed to be better temps., going for 10.0s! We are typically about 3/4 second slower at this altitude than most of the country. less oxygen in air up here!

Well that didn't work out as planned. The rear axle leaf spring perches collapsed and folded up, allowing the pinion to swing upwards, which then broke the u-bolts for the
rear u-joint. That's why Calvert racing sells new perches. Didn't think I would need different perches on a foot-brake car.

weak link
that sucks !!!with that 545 you are make close to 800 hp,and with 3500 lbs your going to find all the weak links when it hooks.sounds like you need to upgrade the rear housing and axles.

yea , the spring perches are a common problem on leaf spring cars. you have to gusset them . sounds like it is running good for you congrats. hope it didn't hurt the quarter panel.

Re: Finally got the new motor running!
It's got 31spline moser axles with a strange pro nodular case. Thinking we'll get a new housing with the bigger/heavier axle tubes with some 35 spline axles. The current housing came out of the junkyard from a '67 or so f150 back in 1983. Going to go with the bigger u-joints also. Was pulling the wheels up on launch, but was not going straight, now we know why!
