Keep Nevs in our prayers
He's caught in the middle of an ice storm up there in Iowa. Power is out quite a distance around him. It's similar to the one I had here in 06. I was without power for over a month. Talked to him this afternoon and it sounds bad, no power till probably next week.

Will do! I am sorry to hear about this. I guess the trip to Terre Haute was like a balmy Flordia day for Nevs, as compared to now.

It's not overly cold there, just close to 32* or so, at least that is better than we had around Christmas time when we had a week plus of sub zero weather. That week would frost your cookies just looking out the window of the house.

Kind of a two edged sword there with the generators. It takes a large gen set to keep my heater going, because I'm all electric. It took a 100hp tractor to pull a gen for my place and it used about 100gal of diesel per day. $1.90/gal for off road diesel for 30 plus days.

We thought we were going to get a bunch of ice last week too. It was 25* and RAINING!! It iced up the trees real good but then quit raining.
I guess a motorhome or camper would be great!! Nevs is gonna have to move into the Pete.

I was out of power from 7:00pm fri. til noon today and I never seen much ice at all. I think there is still a lot of problems from the 06' storm out there. Good luck Nevs

Re: Keep Nevs in our prayers
Thanks for the thoughts guys. Most of the town where I live has power now. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them!
I finally broke down yesterday and went and bought a generator. Only one problem, they were out of the correct plug to wire the generator for 230 volts to hook into the house. So, I've got 110 volts, but no 230. My problem is my well runs on 230, so I've got lights, TV, computer, etc. but no water yet. The power company reattached the power line to my house this morning, but they won't attach the meter to the house, which was torn off in the ice storm. I'm waiting for the electrician to put the box back in place and then we can have the power company reconnect the real juice. At least the generator beats sitting in the dark. From 7:30 Wednesday morning to 3:00 pm yesterday was enough for me. I'm not sitting too bad compared to others, they are looking at another week to 10 days minimum. Of course, when I did get power yesterday, my DSL was down as well. Just got it back about 10 minutes ago. Been lost without the 'net. Man I love winter...

It is surprising how much we rely on electricity. I remember when the whole eastern seaboard went dark 6 or 7 years ago. I was trucking through Detroit. Was kinda strange driving through the Motor City in total darkness.

That's terrible ! I hope he has a back up plan or at least a wood or coal stove to stay warm and cook on . With out heat you don't have water either . Man that bites the big one for sure .
Good Luck and hope they can get the electric on real soon . Ice storms are very bad on the lines and trees as well !
