Re: head gaskets ?
There very well could have been spray/tuneup issues . I'm sure it's just me but I've had better luck with the Cometic MLS gaskets than the copper .
Re: head gaskets ?
Pistons look washed, also looks like alot of idle time, but the tuneup may have been off and contributed to the gasket issue.

I was going to ask the same thing. On the back side of the gasket you only really see evidence of the O-ring imprint real good between the cylinders, and almost none where the leak/blown-out areas are at. How far did the O-rings stand out of the deck surface Nick? Also what kind of sealing goop did you use & where they ever retorqued?
Lem, are these areas where his head gaskets leaked in the same general area where the extra head bolts are located at on the newer 18 bolt heads/blocks?

Re: head gaskets ?
Looks like the deal is leaking on both sides.....intake and exh. It may be a case of lifting the head or a poor o-ring job...it'd be hard to say from where I'm setting...did I say I aint a fan of the copper dealsDILLIGASDAVE wrote:bruno wrote:Lem Evans wrote:Was the block oringed?

More bolts is a good thing but more bolts to try to cover another issue is not .
Re: head gaskets ?
Thanks Lem.
I forget if it was this site or the old one, but wasn't there some discussion on increasing the torque numbers a given amount on the middle head bolt/studs vs the outers on the ends of the heads?

Good point. The devil is in the details.

Re: head gaskets ?
Less tq. on the corners was about cyl head bending on the corners...I think....It's something to think about but i.m.o. I would not think about it much .

Re: head gaskets ?
O-ring the heads and the block, put stainless wire in the groove in the head and use the one in the block for a reciever groove.Have the wire stick out .011 ,use a thin coat of permatex right stuff sealer on both sides of the copper gasket.Works for me, 15/1 and 190 horse shot of nitrous 10 bolt heads.Make sure its tuned properly not too much timing.Have enough tourqe on the heads.

Re: head gaskets ?
copper head gaskets don't seal for crap. But if you run any kind of boost then you need them. The other ones would just blow right out when you hit the boost.
