A Little Metal in the Pan Empty A Little Metal in the Pan

Post  valleydawg April 14th 2010, 2:21 pm

I am running Pinks in Charlotte next week so Monday I leaked down the engine, checked compression, flowed the fuel, added some new plugs and changed the oil. Everything looked great so far but while under the car changing the oil I noticed something funny come out of the pan. After straining the oil I found a big chunk of metal. It was late so I just stopped (totally disgusted) and all day yesterday all my thoughts were bad. Yesterday when I got home from work I pulled the pan and it was the bracket for the oil pickup had broken. The piece fit in place like a puzzle. I pulled it off and welded it back up. Should be good to go now. A Little Metal in the Pan DSCF8340

The oil pump is a stock type form Summit (I believe) The piece that broke was the bracket that bolts to the block.

It that was the brace to the pan stud that holds the pick-up, I'd say you forced something on and caused to to be stressed.

IMO you need to consider replacing the pump. IMO it may have been stressed in the process and It's not good to break off a pump.
