Belt question
Ok the front of my motor looks like...
The crankshaft and water pump pulleys are the ones that the belt for the power steering pump turns the water pump.
I am not wanting to buy a pump right now. (would have to get a pump, lines and a tool to put the pulley on the pump)
Is there any way I can set it up so the alternator belt will spin the water pump or would I need to get different pulleys?

Re: Belt question
I have the same alt mount as you, my belt goes only from crank to alt. My other belt drives the PS and the WP. I figure its good this way 'cause I can feel it if it ever thows the WP belt.
For the initial firing, you can get a belt that just runs from the crank to the WP, you should be able to get one that fits pretty snug. I think there was a thread about that last week.....I think he listed the size belts he used.

Re: Belt question
Thats the way I run mine and about every ford I have seen that had v belts, my Dad said that is the reason ford run the belts that way for if you fill the steering getting hard stop and check the belts to make sure the water pump was still working.I don't now if that is why ford did it or not but he work for ford back in the 60s and early 70s and has been correct on every thing he has told me on older carsbillandlori wrote:I have the same alt mount as you, my belt goes only from crank to alt. Re: Belt question
Thanks for that link. I had thought about putting a belt between the crank pulley and the water pump pulley and then thought "naww it wont work, wont have enough tension"
