Howdy from Kentucky
I still play with cars
Howdy folks,
Damon Sea from Shelbyville KY and originally from a little town called Lawrenceburg KY. Back in the day my dad was REALLY into truck pulling. I was in grade school (70’s) and remember vividly running alongside the pulling track as dad was pulling his 1970 Ford Truck with FE power.
I never really got into cars until the last two years of high school when I was 16 to 17 years old and started helping dad with the pulling trucks along with working on my 1969 Ford Ranchero. It was an R-code car but at the time it sported a fairly stock 302 and a toploader 4 speed. Man I had a LOT of fun with that car and I’m lucky I didn’t kill myself a few times. Young and dumb, you know how it is. That car was eventually powered by two different 428’s and a 427 before I sold the rolling chassis in order to build my 83 Mustang.
I started building my 83 Mustang (It’s actually a 79 Mustang with 83 nose and 86 tail) in 1994, that’s when I bought the car for $400 with a blown up 302 and started pulling out all that wasn’t needed. It now has a round tube back half with 4-link and coil-overs. The first engine in my Mustang was the 428 and C6 that I pulled out of the Ranchero. I drove it on the street and ran it down the strip a few times running in the mid 11’s and man I though it was FAST!! From 1997 to 2001 I had 3 different 428’s in the car and a stroked 427. See I had a garage FULL of FE stuff from the truck pulling days and needed to put it to good use. The stroked 427 propelled the car into the 10.20’s and 10.30’s with a C6 trans.
In 2002, as I was still running the stroked 427, I decided to swap the car over to a 385 series engine. At the time I was a very active member of the FE Forum and then filtered over to the 385 series forum to get advice and information. I was running a DOVE headed 466 that I purchased from a truck puller but it just didn’t run as well as I thought it should so I sold the heads, cam and intake; then ended up with some Aluminum A429’s and a custom roller cam. This combination ran 10.0’s through the ΒΌ and 6.38 to 6.40 through the 1/8 for a short period until a cylinder decided to split. So I’m now running a 534ci A429 headed A460 block BBF that propels my 3215# Mustang down the quarter in 9.3x seconds N/A (still tuning) and I couldn’t be happier! Most of the components to build this engine came from the sponsors in my signature along with many friends like Blake “The Snake”, Fabio, Coug, Chris Corey and many more.
Throughout this period I’ve made MANY life long friends and I’m VERY grateful to be so blessed with all my NEW BBF buddies. I hope this trend continues on the new Big Block Ford Forum(s).
Thanks
