am i nuts or what?
i have been wanting to buy an A460 ford block and everyone tells me i dont need it at all. I am building a 500 cube making 550hp and 550tq, street truck not for track use, i want to drive this truck on the Hotrod Powertour so reliability is a must. 6000rpm max, no nos or anything fun. Is the money i spend on a 4 bolt main ford block worth it or is money better spent elsewhere? I already have an eagle crank, srp pistons, eagle rods and Edelbrock heads

Nothing wrong with having a good block, but the factory deal will be more than fine at that power level...............put the money somewhere else IMO.

YES you are nuts. Heres what you need to do, order a new A-460 block from Lem and have him ship it to me. Then I will ship you a good DIVE block for your build and we will all be happy.
As Jon says for what you are doing, a factory block will suit you fine, unless you are planning on going bigger in future builds.

If you already have pistons, then you wont be going big bore, so there is less need for an A460 block. Especially at that power goal.

Yes,the others are right. The A460 is heavier and kinda overkill for street and mild hp. Use your money for a good set of heads/intake. And maybe some BlingBling

You also don't need the latest and greatest trick parts of the day to reach your goals either.
Step back for a few and think about the whole combo before you go out and spend a fortune on parts.......

Make sure you get a proper "street" roller profile if reliability is one of your concerns. Actually a good hydraulic grind would be an excellent choice and much cheaper than a roller cam setup.

Re: am i nuts or what?
If you decide to go for a mechanical roller, I would like to suggest a Comp Cams XR292R roller setup. In my last 460 build this cam setup made real nice power, and was very well behaved on the street. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
