4 digit horsepower possible with dove heads?
I am getting a new 460 from a buddy. It has about 35 passes on it and then he sprayed it and it hurt 2 pistons. Im going to put 2 new pistons and a set of rods in it. With a set of ported dove heads and a vic or torker intake with a bigshot kit is it possible to make 1000hp with it? Will dove heads flow that much?

You may just hit a wall (Not enough port)with the heads, unless they are "Pro Ported and heavily modified"
Plus thats a big number if the block is stock and depending on what parts your using it might be a grenade...??

Stock block and crank. Im just thinking out loud. Its boring around here with all the snow on the ground. This motor is a flat top motor and Im putting in my 85 to play around on the street.

Block will be walking around, Crank should handle it, Decent Hbeam and NO2 designed Forged piston should work.
A decent build 466 @ 12:1 with a big roller cam, Victor and 1050, decently ported DOVE heads with big valves will lay down 650-675 hp+/- NA.
Thinking out loud myself, I dont think you'll have enough exhaust port to support 1000hp with a 400 ish shot on the motor.

My 466 thats in my car now has 2443 pistons, ported doves with bigger valves, .292(iirc) .631 solid roller, stock rods and crank through a c6 with a ati 3500 converter and 9in rear. It makes 442 to the tire.

Forget it with the Stock Rods...... Your motors making 550ish hp now and they are decently safe at that range, you try hitting that motor with a 500 shot (if it will digest it) your gonna be oiling down the track and building a new motor. May get away with a 100-150 shot with a safe tune.

Not going to spray this motor. Its going into a different chassis when I get it finished. The 460 with the melted pistons is what im going to spray. I will put my eddy rpm kit or my bigshot kit on it. Its just a street car.lol

At 3085# and 151 in the 1/4 my stock cast piston, truck rod shortblock was making around 830 to the wheels. That motor was a D9 block, stock everything w/ D0VE heads that were Max ported. Big shot plate 110N jet. It never hurt anything, in fact I sold that motor this fall and its still kickin. It can be done. Whether or not it should is another question.

I did the shaping of the ports, and Circle R did the welding and finish work.Bigblockfox wrote:Barney wrote:At 3085# and 151 in the 1/4 my stock cast piston, truck rod shortblock was making around 830 to the wheels. I know a certain D0VE headed 466 with forged flat tops that sees an occasional 250 shot and works fine

I agree, it can be done. But like was stated above, "everything has to be right". I did a 466 on a D9 block, with stock rods, coated hypers, and stage II ported D3's, a 8012 Stealth intake and an 850 Holley. In my '86 F150 super cab, @ 5600 lbs., it would run 108 mph in the 1/8 on a 200 shot.

Re: 4 digit horsepower possible with dove heads?
Man I have sprayed my share of nitrous but I believe I would be real concerned if I was going to spray 400+ on stock rods and crank and then turn it like you would need to if you want to see 1000. I was probably making that number with a stock block but I have an aftermarket crank and rods and had a girdle on the block. I also had two systems. Let me know how this turns out.
