How do I determine my gear ratio?
I'm going to use my Gran Torino as an everyday driver. I'd like it to be quick off the line but not real interested in top in speeds. I will occasionally go on the hiway to travel to car shows. 100-200 miles away. Any suggestions for gears?

You can do it the longhand way and calculate your tire size and rpm at cruise speed. Or guess at it. 3.50 is a great all around gear, 3.73 is pretty good on street depending on tire size. I wouldn't recommend going lower than that without an overdrive. Go to summit and buy an auto math handbook if you dont know the formulas.

Do yourself a big favor and go to the apps store and download the TREMEC Toolbox, great app that doesn’t cost a penny.

Wallace racing calculators.
3.50 gear will be perfect. 3.70 will be a little better off the line. No lower unless you have overdrive.

Can you see the driveshaft with the car on the ground? If so put a piece of tape on the tire directly in the center of the tire towards the ground. Put another piece on the side of the driveshaft. Get a buddy to push and roll the tire one turn while you count the driveshaft turns. If you are good you can get really close. If you have a tight posi/locker ect. jack both wheels up and do the same. It's not rocket science and does not require computers and apps.
Low gears and big blocks on the highway suck in a couple of 100 miles also.
TruTrac on street cars good, no clutch's and additive to wear out.
The gear calculators or nice to compare where the new gears and or tires will land though.
