First sand race of the year
I just made some upgrades to my 4x4 to prepare for the Sand Race in Cleves, Ohio. If anyone else is there, stop on by the Black 1978 shortbed F150. Heres a picture from last year.[img][/img]
This year it has bigger tires, narrowed 9 inch with 4 link and coil overs, and a gutted, shortened bed.

Re: First sand race of the year
Last year it wieghed 4580 without the doors and windows. We installed the doors and windows for the last blast race and it ran 5.4 at Cleves. It also ran 5.1 at Brookeville's Dirt track. That was with a budget 545, Victor Heads, 850 Carb, and worn out paddle tires. Now it has the same shortblock with big valve Dove heads, and a bigger solid roller cam and a 1050 Dominator and maybe 300 pounds lighter.

Man that sounds like a fun time. How do they run the event, ie, heads up, et based, or index, and how are the classes set up?

Most of the events are Bracket races, but this event is part of the Pro Truck Nationals series which I believe includes some index classes. Their website is www.Protrucknationals.com
Also once a year there is Gravelrama, which has classes based on the engine and performance parts divided by the vehicle weight.

Mark had some troubles today at test&tune, I think he and his brother are changing engines as we speak, I don't know what exactly happened, but he had some bad bent pushrods, a piece of one was missing, so he plans to be ready to go tomorrow, good luck MARK.

Spare engine is in.
We put a spare 429 in it. It just has a solid cam and stealth intake.
With the stroker motor, I made three passes before it bent the pushrods . It ran 5.61 with small paddle tires that spun real bad. Then a 5.51 with 33x17 Bigger Digger tires in Hi range, and the last pass was a 5.55 with the Bigger Diggers in Low range spinning a little off the line.

I don't believe you are in the camper, you should be out there taking the intake off the other motor, I'm curious to what happened.

Made it to six cars.
The little 429 ran a best of 5.89 @ 55 mph with an awesome 2.24 60 Ft time. Heres a video of it with the 429 and the bigger tires. Sorry no sound with the video.

Re: First sand race of the year
I'm sorry I missed you guys, saw both of you run from the tower at least.
Mark are you guys going to Little Sandy in KY June 10-11 for the PTN race? I have a set of 20.00s for the rear and 12.00 desert traks for the front I could bring down if you want to try them? Just thinking with the little motor it might like a little less tire.

I am not going to Little Sandy, but thanks for the offer on the tires. I actually have a set of 16.5's that were on it. I just posted the video with the bigger diggers because I thought it looked better with them. Heres two more videos.

I have not raced the truck since the Cleves event. The next race I go to will probably be on the dirt track in Brookville, Indiana.
I just put 3/8 pushrods in the 545, and I am thinking about putting it in a drag car to see how it runs. Also I am starting to build a high compression 429 for the truck to run at the Gravelrama event in Cleves in August. I want to climb the Big Eliminator hill this year.
