fixing others sloppiness
guy dropped by shop and wanted to know if I would do some body work. Took a look and someone overlapped the quarter panel. Told him I would have to cut it out and butt weld it like it should be. Panel flange is good when in a hurry I guess. Was brought up to butt everything together. Wasn't overlapped from factory and a good place for rust to start. I once saw a complete quarter panel on over the complete original with rust included. At an upholstery shop having full leather put in. Didn't cut corners on interior I guess. Ok done venting

if it wasn't that way from factory, why now? Flanging in a patch. Wow

definitely. Amazing the shortcuts people take. I know alot of high end shops and I know they don't cut corners. Friends say I'm too picky. If my name is on it, I'm not to picky. Especially since I am trying to get my shop full time and want to be known for quality work.

Never seen patch panels from the factory or part of a quater panel butt welded . That means there is two wrong ways or moreDave Maxwell wrote:if it wasn't that way from factory, why now? Flanging in a patch. Wow

hopefully there isn't patch panels from factory. If butt welding is done and finished correctly there is no evidence. Looks like a seamless patch. Factory quarters do have an overlap where there are mouned. That is expected. I put those back that way. My question is why when replacing a rusted section. Shouldn't be overlapped then. People do it and that is up to them. People put rusted parts on and paint over them also. Up to them

one very good reason ...Money?Time . Value of the car is 2nd . Why put $5 or !0 K into a cart/ruck when there never will be a return . Just has to look good .

that's understandable. If it's not a good car. Don't spend the money. My work car I just through new pads on a rough rotor. It's not worth new rotors. This vehicle was a 66 fairlane that was suppose to be a show car. Not a daily driver. Guy paid good money for the work also, just to ha e a future rusted seam in the middle of his quarter. Post should say others short cuts. If people want to do that, it's fine. Some use chicken wire and bondo on beaters. If and when I repaint my 05 five hundred, I won't take hours to hammer the dents. It will get a quicky and a little mud.
