'58 made it to the final round in Super Street race
I decided to cruise down to Silver Dollar Raceway and run a Super Street (10.90) race today. The intent was to use this event to set up for the Route 66 Nationals in Joliet IL in a couple of weeks, where I will run the same class in the NHRA Full Throttle series race.
Of course everything did not go smoothly. My new radiator had a leak, due to a damaged fitting ( found that right before I left home) the radiator cap that I selected must be wrong, since it spewed water all over the front of the engine on each pass. It was hot......101...103...one pass my weather station logger 105.3. Normal Georgia racing for this time of year.
Bottom line....I made it to the final, where I got beat fair and square on the tree. I had a .022 to his .005. In the 2 prior rounds, I had a .003 and .005.
Even in the heat, it would still run 10.90 at about 143-144. It was trying to chatter the tires, down track on 2 runs. It was a strange feeling and I even pedaled it lightly on the worst pass. I retarded the timing about 5 degrees and adjusted the tire pressure and thankfully, it never did it again.
So...a lot of work to do on the '58...the F350...the trailer and old camper before I head out for Chi-town on July 4th.
