RODEO THREAD>>>4.3 or 4.5 stroke...and some other questions
its getting down to the real technical parts now as I have bought most of all the no brainer parts, and have them stashed away. but now I'm onto the stuff that makes or breaks a build, and the stuff that needs to be matched to the combo...so here goes
I've been reading that the intake manifolds available for the bbf only really allow a peak HP rating of about 6700 rpm.my question is why would anyone go with a 4.3 stroke over a 4.5 stroke (other than rules for displacement) I'm about to buy a crank and really wanna know the advantages/disadvantages of getting the 4.3 because the 4.3 is the direction I'm leaning towards. to be honest I'm inclined to rev this engine as far as I can just out of instinct (raced 125mx instead of 250mx just for the sake of being able to rev...) also I would rather produce LESS TQ. for the simple fact it will be easier to make it stick off the line as well....
compression height with both strokes?
which combo is gonna provide a lighter piston?
are these SCAT 4340 cranks gonna be ok with what this engines gonna make?
what about the Scat H-Beams vs. the Oliver billets?..are the Olivers really worth twice as much $$$?
A460 headed, A460 block, 4.500 bore, TFS cast intake single 4, nitrous engine (3-500hp of spray) 13-14-1 comp. in a fox body on a 10.5 slick... with bars... no rules.... just wanna bust a couple peoples asses, and run some index/bracket races....
.oh and not that it really matters but stud rockers...NOT shafts..
and yeah I posted this on the other forum as well....
or I could just buy a kitchen and be done with it...

This is a 598" TFS A460 engine with TFS 1X4 intake manifold. As you can see it was making good power above 7,000 RPM.
Re: RODEO THREAD>>>4.3 or 4.5 stroke...and some other questions
so once again I'm over thinking it and I should go with cubes?... half my reasoning is that if I went with a 4.3 it would be a scat and be cheaper as opposed to the 4.5 which I would most likley go with a bryant... then there would be no way in hell I would run anything other than the Olivers.

you know scat makes a 4.5... question is do you wanna sell one of those bryants you said you had two of?

I think the Scat H beams are the cheapest part in my bullet lol.

i think it's still at CBI in Athens AL.unless they sent it back.they had Bryant do the balancing so it's ready to go in if your weights are close enough.i have 6.8 olivers and brc pistons for A heads with a pritty big dome.they put it over on the bullet for sale a few weeks ago.138 wrote:cool40 wrote:does'nt scat make a 4.5 crank?i cant say much about their rods but i have olivers in my little motor and a new set for the 605 i'm building.

Re: RODEO THREAD>>>4.3 or 4.5 stroke...and some other questions
I have scat 4.3 crank and scat h-beam rods with 8740 rod bolts. It has banged at 8,000 rpms a few times but mostly 6,800 to 7,300 depending on my shifting...... working well for 1 1/2yrs of track and lots of street use.

Re: RODEO THREAD>>>4.3 or 4.5 stroke...and some other questions
I would go with a 4.5 stroke with that head and bore. The Dyno lem posted made over 1000hp from 6300 until they stopped the pull. Thats a great combo.
Re: RODEO THREAD>>>4.3 or 4.5 stroke...and some other questions
Yep, the average power in the intended operating range is a big deal i.m.o. As we can see the average was 1,018hp 6,100-7,200 rpm. I wish we had pulled it to 7,500 rpm.
