bbf in fox help.
1st i want to apologize for asking first and not researching. I only have access to web at work and its limited.
I am fixing to do another bbf to fox swap. I currently have a 95 with a bbf, race car.
I have an 86' coupe that I want to do a motor swap in this winter.
I currently have a 73' 429 out of a lincoln, Id like to get some information on it if anyone knows anything about them. (comp ratio, hp/torque, head CC)
I want to do a mild street motor, 9 or 10:1 comp
mild cam, dual plane intake, 650 carb, C6 trans with manual VB.
Any input on what heads if other than stock i should use. I want to stay with an iron head for money reasons.
Im not looking for another 800hp motor just 400-450hp and pump gas if possible. this is just a weekend car to play with that i dont have to pay $12+ a gal for fuel. c12 and c16 are expensive.
I know there are planty of people on here who know a lot about these motors so if anyone could help i would really appreciate it. thanks so much.

Re: bbf in fox help.
a 73 motor will be in the 7.5-8:1 range. Probably D3VE castings.
Swap some Early DOVE heads and it will get you in the 9.5:1 range (74ish cc)
650cfm is too small for a 460...... 750+ or and 850 is a good choice.

Yep ... 429's make great "driver" street engines; they're not big gas hogs when done right. I would find older A429 aluminum heads for it for weight and looks, also.
Re: bbf in fox help.
awesome all this input helps a lot. What is a good header size for a dove head? also are there any good kits that come with oil pan headers and mounts. the motor in my race car is plated in and I built headers for it. Id like to stay with motor mounts and a header i dont have to build.

Re: bbf in fox help.
Personally, I would use a front motor plate and the normal trans mount.
I have a dedicated front motor plate for installing a Big Block Ford into a Mustang Fox chassis. With no mounts on the sides, a LOT of headers will fit. (Although, I also have dedicated un-equal length, 2" headers for that swap but, they are for a CJ exhaust port size).

Re: bbf in fox help.
so no mid plate or motor mounts just front plate and trans cross member mount?

2x Limiters are a very good idea. and I agree with the others on using a motor plate for the install. Their are a number of variations on the fox cars as to engine offset and frame width, which with side mounts complicates header fitment, with the plates you can cheat the engine location to get better header fitment if needed, pretty easily.

My front motor plates are 1/4" thick steel, lazer cut to the correct shape to fit into a Mustang, Fox chassis with all appropriate mounting holes and cutout slots to fit over the weld seams on the top of the front frame section for perfect location and they only minutely flex; (a lot less than any motor mount would).
Re: bbf in fox help.
This is the plate Randy is talking about, it's a beautiful piece and fits like a glove.

I also agree w/guy's on the frt plate and also the limiters. w/o the limiters I have seen the timing chain cover crack at the top bolt holes.

That would be a first for this particular front motor plate. I personally have been involved in the sale of more than a hundred of them in the past 17 years and have never been informed of a cracking front cover. There's 11 bolts holding this plate to the front cover, 6 of them go completely through to the engine block and if you use all of 'em, the steel plate just doesn't bend. That is one of the main reasons that we DIDN'T use an aluminum for making the plate.
If the bolts were to get a bit loose then I could see something like that maybe happening.
