Head Flow Cost Empty Head Flow Cost

Post  460bronco July 29th 2011, 9:49 am

I have a set of DOVE-C heads that I've been doing a little porting on at home. I would like to get some actual data on what I'm doing and was wondering what the ball park fee is for having a head flowed. I stopped by a local head shop and the guy said he would flow them for $75 per cylinder....Does that sound right? Thanks in advance.

Sounds too high to me. Maybe the guy doesn't have a BB Ford slider plate. That makes things faster and consumes less time.

Either something like that OR he simply doesn't WANT to do it but, for that amount of money, he will.

That's about right for one cylinder ... $90.00 is about right for one head.

I had my sbf victor sr heads flowed by a well known NHRA super stock engine builder because they were for sale and everyone wants to know flow numbers. Well, the results were not so spectacular. He calls me and says man those things were not that good. They only flowed 312 cfm on the intake. I said well I'm a pretty good engine builder because the motor made right at 800hp. He started to argue with me telling me that there was no way it made that kind of power. You tell me. the 3350 car ran low 5.50's on a small plate shot in west texas at a DA of 5800ft.

cost me $120 to flow all ports though. but I couldn't use those numbers. sold the heads and reher-morrison flowed them at 394cfm. I guess I'm not a good engine builder because that darn thing should have made more hp. Laughing
