pressurized cooling system??
How long does it take for these built big block fords to create pressure in the radiator, hoses etc?

Re: pressurized cooling system??
Pressure in the cooling system is a function of heat. The more heat you generate the faster the coolant in the system heats up. Then you throw in a ton of variables like coolant capacity, water pump flow, radiator capacity and efficiency, thermostat type and rating among many others.

so it can start to build quickly as these engines seem to gerate some heat preety quick.bosshoss wrote:Pressure in the cooling system is a function of heat. not realy, just look at the temp.if you have psi fast you have a problem.stanggt wrote:so it can start to build quickly as these engines seem to gerate some heat preety quick.bosshoss wrote:Pressure in the cooling system is a function of heat. Re: pressurized cooling system??
Pressure without temperature can come from a blown head gasket where cylinder pressure leaks in to the cooling system. While running the engine with the rad cap off you should be able to see bubbles in the rad and smell the exhaust gases being released. I have also seen a frozen thermostat cause pressure to back up quickly and push water out the cap and overheat.

Re: pressurized cooling system??
I just put brand new scj aluminum heads on it with new failsafe thermostat, felpro gaskets. I just pressure ckd system today and pressure never droped off so I would have to believe there isnt any leaks. Just seems to start building pressure fairely quick .Its not pushing water pass the cap or anything so its not getting above 15 pounds as that is where the cap ckd out at. It sure does sound good thoughbosshoss wrote:Pressure without temperature can come from a blown head gasket where cylinder pressure leaks in to the cooling system.
