To E-85 or not to E-85?
Newbie here, been using the site for awhile and have found a lot of great info.
I wanted to pick everyones brain here about running E-85.
I have a 545 I'm in the process of building. Scat 9000 4.5 crank, scat H beams, 10.3 block .030 over, D0VE heads with SCJ valves and port work per reincarnations instructions.
Currently have a Weiland Hi Ram and dual carter comp carbs going on top. This is also up for discussion...
Its all going into a 79 bronco with all the usual 4x4 stuff. Usage is expected to be less than 4000 miles a years, once a week street driven but mainly off road stuff. I don't really plan on running past 6k rpm.
What all needs to be taken into acount as far as converting?
I know i need to be able to flow 30% more fuel. I know there are special carbs for E-85 but trying to avoid that. I plan on running an electric fuel pump set up for alcohol and a new 33 gal tank is already on the list.
What is everyone's opinion on compression i can get away with using the iron heads?
How will the higher compression effect cam selection?
...cam and pistons are not yet picked out, planning on flat top forged pistons with the e-85 and a hydraulic flat tappet for now

Re: To E-85 or not to E-85?
As was said on the other site I would get rid of the dual carb set up for off road use with 2 carbs you will have alot more fuel splashing going on 2 carb vers 1 and flooding may come into play in ruff terrian if you not going over 6000rpm me I don't see the need of 2 carbs, unless you are going for just the cool facter. You will need a carb set up for E85 just jetting up your carbs not going to work.Get you a good 1050 or 1150 E85 carb and use and what trans you going to use auto or standard shift.
Oh ya welcome to the site

Re: To E-85 or not to E-85?
Thanks for the welcoming, all the BBF sites are full of great people. Yeah i got a smoking deal on the carb T Ram set up so I snatched it up but I know its not ideal. I know it takes more then jetting for the carb set up, I know there is the corrosion factor and the floats need to be adjusted or have 10% wieght added. As I said in one of my replies on the other site there seams to be a lot of people running E-85 in an unchanged system other than tuning whih i without a doubt with do more than that. If I need to get a carb i will, I'm just throwing the topic out there to try to get the general consensus on this. As with anything there are always varying opinions. I'm new and just trying to become as educated as I can before making the decision and I appreciate your help. Which brand carb is the most streetable? As in doesn't need to be tweaked before you drive it every time... I am very new to the higher end carbs.
I will be using a C6 auto for now, possibly building up an E40D tho.
