How much power Empty How much power

Post  T. Neal September 17th 2011, 3:36 pm

First I pretty sure I will be running the A460 trickflow head. How much power can you build with a stock block and how many cubic inchs can you build? Can I built a budget stock block the first year and then upgrade to a A460 block next year? I have a factory 460 out of a 78 pickup what block should this be and how much power will it take? I need to make enough power to run 4.90 in a 3250 lb foxbody with a single fogger. What will it take? I know this is a lot of questions but I'm tired of killing a small block trying to run with all these BBC and I refuse to put a BBC in my car I would rather have my pecker stepped on with a golf shoe.

first thing i would do is not rush into the build with a stock block , second thing is with the small tire and a ton of torque you gonna have to slow your roll the first 60' to some high teens or low twenty's and then pour the power on ......i figured to run the numbers i want to run with my deal is about 1100 n/a then between 400-700 on the hose to run some 80-90's , but my choice would definitely be the tfs a-460 18 bolt due to the fact many classes call them "conventional" ........ also give Lem Evans a call regarding your build and he will be glad to help you out !!!!

again welcome to the site

You could build up to 557" provided you sonic check the cyl. walls. Otherwise you could go 545" or 547". You can make lots of power with the stock block but the 2 bolt main caps may not be very reliable at high hp.

Ok after more research on my end today without talking to any pros it looks like a A460 head for sure the C's are not legal for the classes in my area. I'm also thinking that a 598 4.600 bore and 4.500 stroke is what i'm leaning to. Anything over 606 in the class has to weight 3350 so the extra 100 lbs is not something I'm wanting to contend with.

How much heavier is a BBF over my SBF with a svo block? Now I guess I need to figure out where to purchase the parts and who to sell my small block stuff to.

A decent semi-filled stock block 557 with good "A" heads and a single 4 barrel will make upwards of 980 horsepower. Pour in enough nitrous to make your number and it's on borrowed time for sure.
