bbf engine swap fox body
I have a bbf engine swap kit 79-93(headers, motor mounts, oil pan) from Summit. I'm a installing a 502 bbf, C6 in 89 m-tang. What else do I need? I understand it might hit the stock power brake booster.

Welcome to the forum.
If you use the tall Motorsport valve covers, then you will need to convert to manual brakes.
If you use the short (stock height) valve covers, you can keep the small p/brake booster. It will clear, but is tight.
Not sure if your '89 is a factory 5.0 car or not, but if it was, then it came from the factory with the small diameter booster. if it was a V-6 car, then you will need to change or get rid of the booster.
Your double hump trans crossmember (if it was a factory 5.0 car) will work fine with the C-6. You can even re-use the AOD/T-5 trans mount.
If you are using the Hooker 6224 swap headers, then the # 7 header tube will need to be modified to clear the steering shaft.
Hope this helps.

kmember spacers gave me more room for the shorty header exit clearance at the bottom of the firewall. they also allowed me enough room for a twin diaphragm booster (84ish). it did make steering shaft clearance troublesome though. i used a flaming river shaft with their rack. had too reef the column over to the side. bobn

A BIG hammer for clearancing the trans tunnel for the C-6! Just dump the brake booster and go with a manual brake adapter kit. If you run anywhere nnear a big cam, the power brakes won't be dependable anyway. Stops just fine with the manual brakes. If you want to keep the booster, it will fit with stock style valve covers but will be a pita to get the drivers side valve cover off to adjust valves.mpinder18 wrote:I have a bbf engine swap kit 79-93(headers, motor mounts, oil pan) from Summit. fwiw i did not have to hammer the tunnel at all. i am spoiled, i did not like the manual brake capabilities at all. not to be contrary just pointing out my experiences....i do note that my car is a low 12sec ride though....bobn

BOB .... IT JUST MAKES IT EASIER TO REMOVE JUST THE TRANS IF YOU CLEARANCE THE TOP AERA OF THE TUNNEL,PLUS YOU REALLY NEED TO IF YOU USE A SHEILD,
LOOSE THE POWER BRAKE STUFF YOU DONT NEED IT ANYWAY,AND YOU ENG MIGHT NOT MAKE ENOUGHT VAC FOR IT

I put k-member spacers in mine. I lengthened the stock steering shaft a bit to clear the headers better. I am running power brakes and notched the valve cover to clear it. The back vc bolt is a pain to get to.
Spacers allowed me to get it all under a stock '83 hood.

BBR is hard core about his power brakes ! ....LOL
Man, that's sweet work on the notched cover.
I had to use 1 1/2 inch k-frame spacers to get the 460 in my 91 Coupe to clear the stock hood. (with a Torker II intake of course)

I used 1-1/2" square steel tubing for my spacers. The vc notch looks better now that it's finished!
With a 2-1/2" filter and a drop base it fits nice under my stock '83 hood and scoop.

What intake are you using ? Did you cut a hole under the factory scoop ?

FRPP single plane (Victor)
Factory hood already had a hole, but I needed to trim it just a bit to clear the air filter along the back.

If you use tall valve covers to clear roller rockers there is clearance issues. I got a hydroboost unit from the local pick-&-pull

Thanks for all the help
Hey guys thanks, I'm serving in Afghanistan, soon to be home. My motor was finished a week ago (502 bbf) in the states. I recently bought( (also last week) a 84 fox, 12 pt caged, tubbed, ladder bar, 9 inch (no center section), manual rack, k-membered with motor plates for bbf. I was going to use my 89 347 hatchbatch car as a conversion, but now I will use the 84. I like the pictures about the brake booster, had heard that there could be issues with that or the steering shaft.
