One wire, internal battery powered Snap-On ... you'll use it a lot more because it's SOooooo easy.

I picked up on of these a couple of years ago on ebay. It works great. Brighter than a couple of newer ones I have.

Read the article. Good info.

The Snap-On that I have has been checked numerous times and is right-on however, it has NO dial adjust timing feature ... it shows what the timing IS, period.

Whatever is decided upon, use that SAME light every time not a few different ones.

I think I read somewhere, or heard it that the dial adjustable light will give an inaccurate reading with MSD ing. Anyone else heard that?

WE TESTED A bunch of lights a few years ago and found it wasnt the light fault , it was the plug wires, some are so thick some lights picked up better then others, test this by useing a cheap wire sometime over a thick wire, we started carrying a stock wire just to check timing on a few diff engines.

i have a 20.00 sears,and a 400.00 snapon, both always read the same,one a dial,other a dit.

-rich

and yes always use the same light on the same engine

That's the number they list in the article. Same one I use. Also have an older Craftsman one that you have to slip a wire under the ign. wire on the dizzy. Get zapped too many times by that one when turning the dizzy.

I have an old Mac tools one and it always works. I have never tested it against anything else though so I don't know if it is off or not. Interesting article and thread.

Actron Digital from Autozone. $99.00
I also have the Craftsman chrome adjustable type but I wasn't sure if it was accurate so I replaced it.
I drop it too much because I forget about the detachable cord.
The Actron does rpms and the digital readout is helpful.
