Guys, many of you are unaware of
this, but going into the Fall Classic at Indy Oct. 14,15 & 16, and the finals of the NHRA Div 3 Jegs SuperQuick 32 Series,,,,we have Bobby Small and Scott (Larry) Carman in 1st and 2nd place (respectively) in the points. Here's the link; http://www.nhra.net/2011/sportsman/sq3_11.html
This is the series where Phillip Oakley won the championship in 2003 and Kristina Lawyer won the championship in 2010. This is a very tough series, for example at the NHRA SportsNationals Open this past Memorial Day, there were 53 cars trying to make the field of 32, and the field ranged from 4.500 to 4.561. Those that did Not qualify included such names as; Troy Galbraith with a 4.569, Lynn Ellison 4.576, Jeffery Walls, Shorty Rader, Greg Coffman, Edmond Richardson and the list goes on. I hope you also get the picture that we are outnumbered when it comes to our 4 local Fords, verses 40 some odd BB Chevies.
Both Bobby and Scott are a couple of our local boys, both are running American Racecars chassis from Phillip Oakley,,,,, and BB Fords. Bobby's engine is a Pro-Filer headed 638 with a single QFT QFX carb without spray,,,,and Scott's is a TFS A-460 headed 598 with a single QFT QFX carb on spray. Both carbs are from Phillip Oakley, as are the TCI convertors and etc. Other crucial parts are from Lem in both cases, such as the blocks, cranks, rods, pistons, cams, Danny Bee's and so on.
Meanwhile, let's keep our fingers crossed and maintain a good thought, that either one of our Ford powered dragsters wins the 2011 Jegs Championship.

Re: Guys, many of you are unaware of
Okay guys, it's our big weekend, keep your fingers crossed for Bobby and Scott. Krisse Lawyer is already there and out of the trailer ran a 4.52 @ 149 and change. Pulled at 1' high wheelie. On her second pass she pulled a 2' high wheelie and ran a 4.50 @ 150. They say the air is good, back the track is junk. The fast cars are peeling up rubber out at mid track and getting loose. They're hoping NHRA will scrape the track, because the racers are coming back to the pits with lots of rubber stuck to their tires. I'm leaving later this morning to head up there.

Re: Guys, many of you are unaware of
I bet they are still using VP traction compound, NHRA is trying to force their tracks to use it and this is the classic problem it has. Rubber peels up and transfers to the tires. National Trail fought it all year, when the sports nationals were ran there a few weeks ago the BIG sponsor stormed to the tower and demanded they fix this track. The race was halted while they sent someone to get drums of VHT. Problem solved..of course they still say " Indy has no problem with VP"

It was a tough crowd. One of the toughest races I've ever seen in my life, was the 3rd round for Bobby. He cut a perfect light .000 and ran a 4.533 on his 4.520 dial for a .013 package. His competition (Ty Davis) cut a .001 light and ran a 4.880 on a 4.870 dial, for a .011 package. Bobby lost that race which had a margin of victory of .002 at the finish line. You would think, that normally a perfect "triple 0" light would be hard to beat, but heck, his competition cut a .001 light.
Don't get me started on Scott's 3rd race. There was a staging battle and Cory Mong redlighted (the computer timed him out). He went to the tower and cried like a baby, and then Jay Hullinger (NHRA Div 3 Director ) called for a rerun. There was a ruckus or uproar if you will, and a few people from Mong's team side showed their ass. His father, uncle or somebody got into it with me and Ken Storey, and I wish now I had decked the S.O.B.. Long story short, they had a rerun and Scott redlighted.

Staging battles are a bunch of shit anyway. Run your own race and don't worry about the guy beside you. Most of the time you are just hurting yourself
