Can anything be done to hop up a 5.4 in a F250?
I picked up a 2002 F250 X cab 4x4 with a 5.4 in it. Haven't driven it but a couple days before I went out of town. It runs and drives good. Is there anything that I can do to get som power and mileage out of it? exhaust, intake, tuner? Anybody know?

Put an FRPP supercharger kit on it.

Big block torque and Hp in a small package.............. My Lightning would pull better than my 460 F-350, just couldn't carry the bumper load or stop it.

I'll check into that. I sold my 6.4 diesel and got this to drive for a bit until my old 7.3 is back in top shape.

hook it to the back of 7.3 with green oil, high hp rated wheels, start it and do a burnout...............

I don't think they made a 5.4 that gets any good mpg every one I have seen or drove only got 13 mpg.
Eco Boost cost to much my 93 F250 7.3 with a 5 speed gets 19.5 mpg never would have thought it would have got that kind of milage when I bought it.

I put an edge evolution programmer (setting #2) on my 5.4 and I got 16 mph. It had a little more get up and go but still didn't like pulling my 24 ft enclosed trailer.jbozzelle wrote:I picked up a 2002 F250 X cab 4x4 with a 5.4 in it. We have abunch of the 5.4s here and the run ok but put a trailer on them and you might as well get a Donkey and have him pull it cuz they Suck when you put a load on them, and you can watch the gas guage go down as you go forward, if you hit a rock on the road they downshift. not enough Balls to pull a straw hat off a sick mule.....JMHO

Re: Can anything be done to hop up a 5.4 in a F250?
I have a 2000 f150 240,000 miles original motor and trans, exhaust gets about 15-16 mpg . pulling gets about 12 and it sees a trailer alot, anyway
Put longtube headers on it , highflow cats, free flowing exhaust a economy tune , cold air intake, and that should help out alot. If you were really serious about it I'd put some comp cams in it. the list goes on and on. but its all in how much $ you want to spend.

I had several of the 3V 5.4 Expedtions [one Funk Master ].......16.5 mpg local...20 mpg on long hwy. trips. The 6 spd. transmission is part of the results i.m.o.

Drop it off at my house and I'll drive it since you're playing in the sandbox. I ditched the 6.4 because I was tired of the note, I don't want another one.
This truck will be given to my brother when I'm done with it in a few months. So, we'll do a few things to it and see what happens. Probably going to leave the stock manifolds, but will do some larger exhaust/cat, etc...

Re: Can anything be done to hop up a 5.4 in a F250?
I have an 04 F150 4x4 and the only thing I have added was a Edge tuner. The one thing I really like about it is the pod it comes with looks factory and I can watch 4 windows at a time. You can choose like 12 different things. I have trans temp, oil temp (I don't drive in the winter until oil is 50+degrees),IMPG,AMPG. depending on what gear is in the truck (3.55 or 3.73) your gas milage will change. I notice a huge change in the power band with the tune in it. No longer do I have to floor it just to pass someone.
