How hot can a CRANK get?
Quick lube place, only 5 qts added to the diesel. ~WTF~!
Rod journal, got so hot the piston pin was able to mold it's self into the crank.
Crank material welded onto the pin.
Rods broke, window in block, no oil at all (would of been on fire) still running at dealership..
6.7L

I think most of that will polish out. May have to go 10/10 on the crank.

Then the wife would just turn the radio up louder, cause even more issues.

You say that was still running, when they brought it in, impressive, but as Dan ask, did they do away, with the low oil shutdown, if so, why?

what engines had that switch? 7.3L and 6.0L..? High oil pressure system ran the fuel injectors.
NO need for it on the 6.7L
Do any gas engine have the switch?

Re: How hot can a CRANK get?
no oil shutdown on um, the 7.3/6.0 would quit running after they get about 9-10 quts low due to the oil being foamed up so bad the HP pump could not maintain enough oil press to actuate the HUEI injectors.
We did have a 6.7 in here a few months back that was knockin its ass off, it was full but it was a beat to hell farm truck. we told them it would take 3 weeks to get it in (which at the time was true) so they hauled it up to okc which was fine by me.

Re: How hot can a CRANK get?
My truck shut down when it was about 4 quarts low.But ,it actually shutdown from low oil pressure to the HUEI injectors . Is that right Fabio? I'm just glad it shut down when it did..no harm ,no foul this way.At least my crank is still crankin!!

Re: How hot can a CRANK get?
yep you lost the line from the HP pump to the cyl head.
We used to have a dipshit lube tech years ago that left a drain plug loose on a 7.3, needless to say a tow and 15 qts of oil later it was fine. I know the old guy that has it and it has well over 400k on it now on the original engine.
A 6.4 and a 6.7 will run with no oil lol

Re: How hot can a CRANK get?
They just won't make any long distance trips with no oil I like the 7.3 set up, might have to replace a line sometime ,but not the engine!
