I don't see how it would cut into the car budget, it aint like he bought a 2011...............for what they cost one would have to sell the car to make the payments................

D you don't need no Freakin chip.... I have a 6 position and it is in stock position, what really helps these is a 4" exhaust thats better than a chip....Chips are for Breaking things....

3.5" downpipe is more than enough, honestly the restriction on the stock exhaust system is the muffler, that late 99 wont have a cat converter on it. Another upgrade that is a must is an airbox, the stock one is an underdesigned pos and has been responsible for many 7.3 deaths. Do not put a K&N on that thing, they are terrible for filtration on a turbo diesel. The AIS kit that Ford sells is the best one IMO, it uses the Donaldson filter media like the 6.0 and 6.4 use.................which is about the best things on those trucks lol. I laugh when they come in with some high dollar aftermarket filter set up and there is all kinds of dirt in the tube past the filter..............

Re: Please Welcome the newest member of the 7.3 Turbo Diesel club boys!!
The factory DP is 3" IIRC, the ID on the turbo outlet is 2.75"......with a big ole flapper valve in there thats best removed................ The Snakemobile has a 3" DP..................
A good flowing exhaust is just part of the puzzle though.............but not all of it.

Re: Please Welcome the newest member of the 7.3 Turbo Diesel club boys!!
my early 99 came with a K&N filter the turbo wheel had over .050 movement in it.so i swaped everything out to the newer model 03 turbo with a non exaust back presure valve and non exaust backpresure valve pedistol.i went with a 4" down pipe to the orignal exaust system.i want to replace the rest of the exaust system i dont like the droning sound i get from runing just the down pipe.once you replace the exaust system is the sound about like the oem?

I did the Wix filter install that should be in the links I posted earlier. Cheap and easily available. 4" MBRP exhaust and DP Tuner 5 position chip.
