need a new C6 for my 72 Ranchero
I need a new C6, the car has 49000 miles since new, it satt for 12-16 years inside a warm storage. I have driven it for 2000 miles and the tranny did not run smooth, and eventually broke down. Oil is greyish, brownish and there are no gears.
I will buy a tranny that will take my 557 with about 650hp that i will put in later,no racing intended, just big for fun, but for now just my orig 400.
What will you guy's recomend. anybody sell me a rebuilt one.??
I will like to have a tranny from someone who has a "name" that do this for a living so that I can be asured that its ok. Actually one that are driven in an bench so it checed out for any bug's
I will need the price including shipping to Fl 33111 and with a converter for use with my 400. The guy there will ship to me in Norway with other stuff I buy in the us.
My Ranchero is an original GT with the 400 and a C6 and a column shifter.
Thank's Giska from Norway

If it has the 400m in it go ahead and buy the trans you will be running behind the 557 all you will have to do is change the convertor for the 557.

If this is the orginal engine make sure you don't have a 351c in it the 351c will have a small block bolt pattern where the 351/400m has the big block pattern
With it being a 1972 I am thinking it goig to have the 351c in it and not the 400m both engine look alot alike but have different bolt pattern for the trans.

Don't you have transmission shops in Norway? C-6 is NOT a hard unit to rebuild and/or upgrade. Would be a lot cheaper buying a rebuild kit than having a complete C-6 shipped over, especially since you already have a usuable core.

Hmmm we have one and they will have more than 3000$ for a overhauled C6 no upgrades. And they will have my core. But shipping for the one I will buy in the us are 178$ in the us and about 80$ in a container together with other stuff I buy in the us, to Norway. On top of this the tax for all parts I buy are 25% but that is also the case when I buy it in Norway. So all together I will save about half the total in Norway if I get it from the us.

Wow, I'd say that is highway robbery! A C-6 is not hard to rebuild, hate to ask what they want for an OD transmission! Well, certainly plenty of good C-6's in the USA to be had. One thing to watch out for is make sure you get the right output shaft. The drive gear for the speedometer is cut into the shaft and theire are 6,7,8, and 9 tooth versions. Also in the 2wd versions are a long and short shaft version. The long shaft usually are in lincolns and have a different mount arrangement on the extension housing. You should have the short shaft (23") with the single mount.
