flathead Ford v-8 value
Does anyone know what a complete flathead v-8 is worth, or where to look up the value? My Dad had one, complete with transmission and Mom wants me to sell it. Do they have much value, or are they just scrap? Anyone with info, please pm me.

Worth more than scrap IMO, just need to get it to the right people. I do know that some are more sought after than others and origional hot rad parts can bring a decent buck.

Re: flathead Ford v-8 value
Steve,
When I had my 41 I was in your boat looking for a block.
Marty over at Speedway motors told me the going rate was $100 bucks for a core motor, not knowing what it was like inside. But a $100 still sounds too cheap to me.Darn near all of them are cracked somewhere. But there are many fixes out now.It just depends where its cracked.Sorry I couldnt really answer your question.
Good luck.

Re: flathead Ford v-8 value
I'd agree a core block for $100 but a complete motor and trans if it's in runable condition or a clean "core" would have to be worth a slight bit more IMO I'd take a guess at $500 to $1500 if it's complete and decent. Maybe more to someone who has to have one, but keep in mind I'm not talking about something that looks like you picked it up off the bottom of some lake.

You might try one of the rat rod sites like " killbillit.com" or something like that. I have sold a lot of flathead parts on E-bay...Wade

Re: flathead Ford v-8 value
It's worthless so just give it to me. I'll be over this weekend to pick it up!
What year is it? I'm in the market for something to stick in a 30 Coupe I just picked up.

IIRC the later model units were more desirable because they did not have the bell housing cast as part of the block. It makes it easier to adapt a late model transmission to them.

Not sure of the year, but, it has 8BA cast into the heads and the bellhousing is removable. Hope that helps. I'm guessing shipping would be the big deal on a situation like this.

8BA is a '49 to '53 ford motor. Depending on it's internal condition, anywhere from $500.00 to $1500.00. Bellhousing, flywheel, clutch and trans would be more...especially if the trans is an overdrive unit.

Not sure if it's an overdrive or not, but it's all there. Couldn't say what it's like internally, my guess is, rust could be an issue

well ive sold 2 of then on ebay for around 800.00ea, but they were good engines not rebuilt but they ran! you can look on shoeboxford.com and may get more info, the overdrive has a spacer in the rear about 2" wide and should have a silinoid and a arm for a cable to go on! i have seen the overdrive go for 500 or 600 on ebay george.

For what it's worth I got $450.00 for the flathead, as is, out of my '49. Hadn't run for some time.

I just remembered Steve.
Out in West Texas they use flatheads for well-pump motors exclusively. I saw tons of them while on I-40 acouple years back.
Don Hardy, and his son are in the well-pump buisness now. Google him. His well-pump buisiness link is there. Nice Guy, don hardy
He could give ya a idea. If not there, leave a message. He WILL return your call.

Just a suggestion.. the guys are right about your being worth more with the seperate bellhousing..My uncle has an old Hemi with the bell cast into the block....and it took us 2 years to find the right buyer for it...But he finally sold it...
