TFS Streets vs A429

OK...So I made the switch..Last week my A429's went a 5.669 at 119MPH with a 119 60ft...This week I installed TFS Streets and I got a 5.643 at 121MPH with a 120 60ft. I think there is some more to be found in the tune up with the TFS heads. I upped the timing from 29 to 31 and retarded the cam from 3 A to 1 R and it liked both.Still way off what I was hoping for , but it still is a bad machine.

No Rick,it's all track tested. I wish I could afford the luxury. If I ever build a Big Bad one ,it'll go to the dyno. This a 514 stock 2 bolt and a scat cast crank deal.It's a flat top piston Jon

In that case your compression is a even lower than mine, which it what hurts my current combo.



Start saving pennies for a 4.5 crank and another set of rods and pistons, I'll bet thats your next bang for the buck.

so he put these heads on and lowered his compression on an alky deal ???? doesnt sound good to me ....

I'm not sure what cc his old heads were, so i'm not sure it got lowered. And alky will run good with low comp, my old back up motor was 10-1 and it gained 2 tenths with meth.

I'm just saying the rotating assy might be the limiting factor now.

Alky likes all compression ratios Nick. I haven't cc'd my A429's ,but I don't think there's much difference in chambers on the heads. It still runs good for what it is, you just always want more

so were you a-429 otb or were they rubbed on ..... and what about the TFS's were the rubbed on and do you have any flow #s Dan

I think once the cubes and comp go up the street heads will support it better than what you had.

Get that bore opened up and all hell will break loose...........

Both sets have been ported by Charlie. I'm not sure on the flow #'s on the A429's .I think they are in the 345 range and the streets are 380. They're both good heads IMO....

Thuth be known the iron set of CJ's Blake did work damn good too.

The fact that it gained +2 mph in the eighth, is telling us something. Maybe like Dan said, there is still more left in it. The total unknown is the compression ratio difference. If Dan will bring his old A-429 heads by, I'll be glad to cc the chambers. IF, If, if, my foggy memory is correct, his TFS Street heads had 73 cc chambers.

cool deal ...... plus im sure the existing cam is not optimum .....

You picked up a little mph so it's making more power. Would be nice if you could run it through the 1/4 to see what that mph and ET is compared to your previous combo. More tweaking & tuning...

I took the high side chip out today and it went 5700 on the convertor, the other heads went 5400 . So it's making more power for sure ,and I was shifting at 6200, so I think a raise on the shift RPM will help some. I've got the tranny out now replacing the pump. I'm sick of this thing backing out of the lights!!!

I also put new plug wires on it today, I picked up a set yesterday at BFEvans ford while I was there paying my bill....Thanks Lem

When I had my streets on my 557 the higher rpm I shifted at the faster it went, I got to 7100 and quit, Don't know if it still wanted more or not. I just know I didn't want to turn it any more. Also, IT RAN FASTER THE HIGHER THE LEAVE RPM WAS ON THE TWO STEP.

Get after it Dano...........

My 529 will slow up if you shift it below 7000. It takes off like you hit the nazzzzzzz the higher you turn it lol.

Yes ,my line lock is wired in the delay box ,but it wants to settle back just a hair and redlight . I put a gauge on the tranny and it only had 130lbs. when the brake was applied at idle and wasn't even hot yet. the pump looks like shit inside..alot of wear. Blake , I'm gonna put my foot in it's ass friday night

The line lock is more of a rock control for the slack in the driveline.

This tranny's been doing this on and off for a year. I've just been too lazy to fix it. No big deal ,just a worn pump.It's hard to keep everything up on unemployment.And running back and forth to Florida to get Nick going too.
