Asking because I don't plan on got 150 to need a chute.this will be a lone time try for 8.99 pass on the juice should be at 10.0 or 10.50 on all motor with a 408w right now running in a 83g hacth back reworked stock susp.but hooks great 1.44 60ft. Running 11.2s on all motor noe..this motor will be.dropped into a lighter ls notchback that is tubbed .with the drop in weight and having tubbed get me 10.0 or mid 10.'s on? All motor
right now in my I got a tko Trans with 3.73.? On a 200 shot I go 10.09@138 I got another 50 more I can add.
this only car is way lighter

our 1/4 track when we run 1/8 you dont even need brakes lol. When we run 1/4 there it will stop at 159 but I have to lean on the brakes pretty good (strange disc all way round) At our 1/8th mile only track at 130 it will stop without the chute......but if they fail I'm headed straight into a tractor dealership................I pull the chute there it just makes life easier.

There's nothing wrong with pulling the chute at 130. Saves a lot of wear and tear on the brakes. Just because your not required to have it doesn't mean it doesn't have benefits.
Re: brakes how to stop car at 149 MPH?
I think depending on the situation there can be a valid argument between brake wear vs chute wear, and what's worse in the long run. You never really notice how much wear & tear the chute goes through until you start using it on every pass. The pilot chute & deployment bag can really get the holy shit beat out of them in a surprisingly short amount of time when used every pass.
The other surprising thing about using a chute every pass is how much the chute's weight increases over time from picking up/absorbing tons of dirt, oil, & grime off the track & return road surfaces.

^^^^ true, i notice the other day my pilot chute was getting a bit ragged, I've only pulled it like 5-6 times, and it gets picked up on the return road before dragging it back to the pits.
either way its good to know its there just in case, but on that same note on the short tracks if it aint already out by the stripe it wont matter anyway.

It may be just me but if I didn't have enough brakes to stop then I would install a chute for "just in case" situations. Like all safety parts they are not that important till you need them.

I think you would be way better off with better brakes as opposed to using the chute as a substitute. If nothing else having the chute is good insurance if you have other issues, or even a braking problem, replying on the chute only could leave you in a bad spot if it doesn't deploy right when you need it to. Changing pads occasionally beats buying replacement chute parts.
I'm in the process of upgrading all four of my brakes to the new Baer four piston set-up. I did the rears last year and am doing the front this year. I don't go as fast as you do, 141 or so but the car weighs 4150 'race weight'. I plan to spray it this year so I'm adding a chute as I expect to exceed 150 but I plan to rely on the brakes primarily.
The brakes are the real deal. You might have seen the story about the guy who drove his turbo fox body from New Mexico to Florida, won the True Street event running high 8's and drove home. He is using those brakes.
