Will this cam work with the factory solid roller springs installed on the scjb heads? Getting conflicting info from summit and ford racing and from the springs specs.

It should, but check the specs of the ford stuff with the 954-16 that comp recommends

I have SCJ-B heads and that cam is same as mine except for my duration is +20 more degrees. The springs will need to be shimmed up to get the seat pressure needed.

Using those heads , cam and the original SCJ springs . My research 5 years ago with Ford racing etc said would work.. Has been real nice no issues here All worked spot on.

There have been 3 different springs used on the SCJB package over the years...I suspect that's the reason you are getting conflicting info.

Exactly ... it all depends upon which springs are on YOUR heads.

Working on that issue now for a guy. He bought a set of the SCJ's and trying to get a decent cam without having to screw with changing the springs is kind of hard when Ford changed the springs and pressures several times.

There are 3 versions ... in over 10 years.

The guy I'm helping wants to run a Comp shelf grind. I told him just to call and get a specific cam, but can't help some people sometimes...

It's a good thing FRPP changed the spring package. The current package [1243 PAC] is miles ahead of the original stuff & now has 10* locks rather than the 7*.

Got a shelf solid roller cam you recommend for a set of out of the box SCJ-b's on a 521? I can't talk the guy into doing any port work, so I wanna get out of it, but told him I'd try to get him a shelf cam that would suit his needs.

The best all around "shelf" roller camshaft I have tested with those heads, un-ported on a 521 is a Lunati #51607LUN.
At least back-cut the intake valves...

Thinking I'm gonna win this round with him! Showed him a few shelf grinds that would be a max of .650 lift that the heads are set up for, and he finally agreed that they need to come apart and have some work done like back-cutting the valves and setting up for a little more lift. Then it'll be off to a cam grinder to get something better.
I understand times and money are tight, but for the life of me, I can't understand why people want to build race motors and not expect to put time and money into them to make things right! I'm no millionare, but I am willing to spend money to get the right stuff the 1st time!

Randy,I was wandering if you ever used that same cam Lunati #51607 with the Aluminum A-429 Cobra Jet head.
Thanks Mark

YES ... that is where I originally first used it. In a clone FRPP 514 crate motor around 2001.
