Portable Dish TV
Has anybody set up there dish TV at the track or for tailgating? Is it as simple as buying the portable antennae set-up with an existing subscribed receiver, or do you need an additional programming subscription?
I have an extra receiver with a good card in it that I could use.
Thanks

we have done several track vision deals about 3800 installed , and we have done several direct tv concreted in a bucket deal , most of the time if you have service in the house its an additional 6.95 per month , you will have to talk to your provider though

I had a dish screwed to a 2'x2' plywood and set it on top of the trailer and then would aim it to the direction it needed. As far as the reciever, if you just use it for the weekend and then reconnect it to a phone line, they don't usually catch it, unless you have it unplugged for a week or so. Then if they do catch it, they will charge you the fee that Bruno mentioned. You can call them and just say that your phone line was dead when they happened to check it and they will refund you the extra fee.

That's what I'm talkin' about! I'm not looking for some 3800.00 set-up LOL!
Thanks

Me too, I have some that are connected to a phone line and some are not even close to one. I have a tripod, dish and one receiver box that I use when we go somewhere with the fifth wheel trailer

Re: Portable Dish TV
How hard is it to "locate" your satellite. Also, do you have any trouble losing signal once you get set up?

It depends how lucky/experienced you are. lol. A sat finder can be very helpful though. As far as losing signal it all depends on your mount. If it is sturdy there is not reason to lose signal. If it moves every time the wind blows well that is a different story.

Re: Portable Dish TV
Tommy, run down too radio shack and buy a signal strength meter. you can go on line and find the longitude/latitude that you need for the location you will be using it at. Once you get close to the right direction angle, the signal will start getting higher. Once the meter gets about 80% your picture will stay stable, but get it as high as possible so changes in the atmosphere wont affect it.

My Dish Network system has a signal strength meter in the set up menu. I haven't had a phone line connected to it in years and have never been charged for it.

Re: Portable Dish TV
I ordered a portable antennae package that has a "satellite finder" (maybe just a compass LOL) included along with tripod stand cables and stuff to install last night. I have an extra receiver and none of my other receivers are hooked to phone line either.
Thanks for the replies!

Tommy around here if we didn't Bracket Race they would have to shut the tracks down, so it's not as bad as you guys all make it out to be.... if you guys wish to heads up race start with a couple million and go Prostock or Super Stock racing...Trust is there is 1000X more bracket guys than Pro racers...

I have it for the wife to watch, that way she leaves me alone. I now have the King Dome on the motor home, it all automatic and keeps locked on even as I'm driving on the road, the only time it loses signal is when I go under an overpass, then the screen locks up until I come out the other side.

That only works if you can see the tv from the satellite dish. Not very often.
