"rmcomprandy" - how about the handling issue?
no problem in the handling , unless high performance street/ street racing .
who would do that if they worry about MPG

Re: Question about sale of 500 cid engine
I found some '07 Shelbys for low to mid $20K range. They have a VERY nice package. They only came in black or white with silver stripes, except for the Hertz model that came black with gold stripes. The '08's and above are out of my range. I've seen some other color combos in the '07's, but they must be aftermarket or, as some have suggested, they are "clones." It's interesting that people would be making clones of them so soon after production.
It's too bad if I can't work out the concerns I have about this '68. They really paid attention to details to try to make it a more modern ride: sound deadened interior, underbody connectors, after-market heavy duty axle splines, 1" sway bar, poly-graphite bushings, GT 500 traction bars and the list goes on. Great resto-mod, which is what I'm looking for - not interested in the "numbers matching" piece of history...I wouldn't drive it out of respect!
About the handling "issue" - I'm basing that on the comments made by the restorer. Basically, he built it to drive fast and straight, as I might have mentioned, and said that it corners like a "snow plow" (or bulldozer...you get the idea). It could be that he's referring to trying to take a corner hard, but I trust that he knows how it drives overall.

Rats!!! BAD review on the Shelby
See caranddriver.com/reviews/2007-ford-mustang-shelby-gt-first-drive-review (preceded by "www", of course...I'm too new here to post the link).
Doesn't sound like the regular GT would be much better. Guess you don't drive them for their comparison to other models...you drive them for the love of the car and its place in American history!

Re: Question about sale of 500 cid engine
I have a 08 Shelby vert and I love it.I know of no major issues with them, But I also have a couple of Fox bodys and a 77 Cobra II, I like them to.It is just up to what you like and what you want to spend. Fox bodys make great drag cars ,they are nice street cars, can be made to handle pretty good with a few parts springs shocks sway bars torque arm set up for the rear. The mustang II will also respond to the same mods but you have to put alot effort into stiffining the chassis. They make fast little carsthey are very lite wt, but they are pretty much a pinto. My personal choice is a 69 fastback had one and sold it always wanted another one.
As for car and driver they are in love goverment motor company and their new camaro.

Judging by their reviews overall, it sounds like the Car and Driver guys put these cars to the test much like Hollywood drives them during chase scenes! Who drives like that? If it's got decent power, stops well, can handle a decent corner or tight curve THAT YOU WOULD FIND DURING NORMAL DRIVING, then I think that's all you need. The rest is all about looks and $$$.

Alot of those magazines have specific cars they like and nothing else matters........ They do not necessarly reflect what Muscle Car or Drag Car guys like.

I totally agree ...
I used to Road Race for a living and I could show you a five speed V6 CHEVETTE which would out drag a production 427 Corvette, stop with the best a Carrera had to offer, run circles around any production Mustang for handling and top out at 155 MPH.
Put everyday street tires on it instead of DOT gumballs and you could certainly drive it around city streets and get good mileage doing it; good or bad reviews don't make a car what it is. Getting a car to do what YOU would wish it to do is the only thing that matters.

Move on to another car. With your limited knowledge, buy a Mustang ready to drive!

Limited in knowledge, but very resourceful! Over the years, I've learned that I'm a quick study. I'm not totally ignorant of mechanical processes - served 8 years in the Navy operating/maintaining nuclear power plants, so all I ask is that you guys NOT be shy about sharing specs, knowledge, experience, etc. Getting a quick education here! Getting your input helps me make a WISE decision.
