Re: what gears?
4.29 here with a 100" rollout tire, I'd say a 4.88 deal would work w that tire in the 1/8th.

Re: what gears?
I have a 4.11 in there right now, thinking about changing it until I spray it real hard.

Run a 4.57 in mine, no way it could do a 4.88...converter is loose and it would trap too high in the 1/8
Re: what gears?
thats where i'm at,4.56. my 60' improved with the sissy bars and now i'm back where i was with 4.86,shift light is on too long on the far end. shift @6800 and cross about 7200 but it's real done at 7200,i mean on 7200 about last 75-100ft. last year the 4.86 to 4.56 did'nt do much, maybe 200rpm less on the far end and no real 60'loss.i thought i was leaving @4800 friday nigh but i was @4200,the last years m5 pass made me drop it to keep the frontend down.it's 60'n hard enough i think it'll pull less gear, what yall think? 4.30-4.11?David Cole wrote:cool40 wrote:what rear gear do you big tire guys run? i'm think'n about a change! 2650# chassis car with 15x33 and a 1.80 glide.

Re: what gears?
I'm thinking about changing to a 4.30. The 4.11 will be ok for the quarter which is what I run 99 percent of the time. I may change it for the June race but I doubt it. I'm pretty much gonna be in test mode for the June race so I may leave it to see where I am. Not knowing car that well its hard to make a recommendation. If your 60 is the same with the taller gear I can't see where it would hurt to throw some in and give it a shot.
Re: what gears?
4.30 hear..... Looking at upping that to a 4.56 or 4.86 for this small motor.

Re: what gears?
as i've tuned on it the 60' has came down but mph has not went up,it's just done @7200 with track left.i've noticed some talk of 1.69 low gear glides and some cars kinda like mine run 3.90 gears i may be where i need to be but it just feals like it's never loaded, even off the line.Barney wrote:I'm thinking about changing to a 4.30. 466....... Baby Engine.
I have a 3.89 gear in the case I'm going to use for the 4.56 or 4.86.

i dont think that'd work for me,lol.4.10 may kill it but i'm sure 4.30 would'nt hurt it.dfree383 wrote:466....... Baby Engine.

Re: what gears?
5.14 in mine. 16x33's, 1.80 glide. Probably going to go to a 4.88 next time around. In 1/8th mile racing you don't see a lot of rpm change on top end by changing ratios. Usually has more of an affect on launch and 60's.

Shift at 7k, go through lights at 71-72. Convertor flashes about 5800 on the transbrake.

Re: what gears?
Bring this back from the dead! Anyone go a different way with gears lately? Last time i needed to get rpm under control but this motor wants to rpm.my gear now is 4.30 tire is 106.5 rollout. The converter works very good now after the 3rd try.im shifting @ 2.6into the run at 7600rpm which imo is way to far out in low gear.when I shift it drops 800rpm and only has time to pull back up to cross at 7000rpm @135mph. I'm thinking a gear change...4.86 maybe!
