Is swapping a dana 60 in place of a dana 44 on a 77 F-150 a simple swap?

Not really, because the truck is on coil springs in the front and the 60 was made for leaf springs. You could add the brackets for the leaf springs, or do a ladder bar or 4 link with coil overs, but it's not going to be cheap or easy either way. You will need to figure out steering linkage too, as the 60 used a different style linkage to the axle that was parrallel to the frame rather than a crossover drag link. There are ways to do a crossover with heim joints and brackets that bolt to the top of the knuckles. The Jeep guys have been using this stuff for a while. It might be easier to find an F250 frame and start with it rather than try to swap it all onto an F150 frame.

Just a thought .... here are some pieces to weld onto your 60 so you can use the Danna 44 radius arm setup.... then you just have to buy the high steer arm for the top of the knucle and build a link between your radius arm and your knucle....

My buddy did this on his 78 F150, worked great. We used a 78 Dana 60 and cut the brackets off his 44, it was a little work but it came out nice and drove great.

I also originally used the 44 c's and welded them to my 60 worked great. i found out that using a 85-early 91 kingpin 60 worked better cause of the difference of where the pumpkin sits. (better driveshaft angle). as for steering mine still has the factory 60 tie rod and i just use the 44 draglink (box to tie rod) you just have to cut and turn it cause the hole is on the front on the 60 tie rod as the 44 is on the top of it. i now have a very flexy suspension and long arms,etc..with hydraulic assist and 44 inch tires and have no problems. if ya want some pics or something shoot me your number...
