Don Bowles crash

Don Bowles crashed his Mustang, looks like a pretty big hit, but the word is he is OK. He was at Milan. Can't find any other information at this time.

Don Bowles, who has been racing since ’61 and usually runs in the NMCA’s Comp Cams Pro Stock and NMRA’s Edelbrock Hot Street classes, chose the NMCA’s NA 10.5 class this weekend and brought his ’79 Mustang out for the job. After a straight launch and clean and fast 8.20 at 165 mph pass, he deployed the chute and ran into trouble. “When the chute came out, it jerked the car to the right,” said Bowles. “We think a strap got caught under the wheelie bar when the chute came out. I was just happy I didn’t hit Robbie (Blankenship), who was in the other lane.” The car, which Bowles bought new in ’79, was packing a Ford FR9 NASCAR engine.

Don and I will be headed to Michigan in the morning to pick up his bus and race cars. Taking the maverick to Columbus for the NMRA race. Don allowed me to do a cylinder head change and freshen up on the engine in the maverick and He is in the final from Milan in pro stock and it will be run at Indy. Thats not bad after having a wreck in the mustang. Hopefully we can kick some butt at Columbus. Really looking forward to this trip.

No bigger pucker factor in the builders life than that first hard pull on the engine.

First time we spun the 525 to 10,000........ I thought everything was going to come out the bottom end. Americans just aren't used to that sort of RPM level.

Ya Kim, only one of those things are supposed to shove things out the bottom.

Just glad he's okay, sucks that his car was wrecked but on the bright side he is fine and ready to race with another car he has. And that engine sounds pissed!
